Hello D&D fans! Welcome back to the hero’s journey. The official Season Two Premiere Session has begun! K-Krew is temporarily known as “D-Crew”, and the following aliases are listed below—their new names—during the “Undercover Internship” SAGA:
Kai-Ku is “Monster”
Gundam is “Dragoon”
Killion is “Raiden”
During this session, we ended up doing a one-shot adventure involving saving children from Human Trafficking. Chester and AJ explain they are slaves from an evil babysitter named Icky Vicky. D-Drew decide to investigate and stop the Evil Babysitter from doing horrific things to the children of Baldur’s Gate. Toguro stays behind with Chester and AJ while D-Crew figures out how to find Icky Vicky and stop human trafficking in the worst criminal city in all of the Sword Coast.
D-Crew decided to “hire” Icky Vicky for a babysitting service, using Kai-Ku as bait to find her base of operations. D-Crew has to “borrow” a house, based on Toguro’s order, so the exchange looks realistic. Going undercover while being undercover. Bull-E, a humanoid creature, comes to pick up the child. Kai-Ku—right now, Monster—is taken. Gundam—Dragoon—follows on foot. Raiden, a less scarier name than Killion flies from a distance.
Team “D-Crew” try to get Monster out after he talks to Kid #2543. Kid #254 speaks for the group. Monster discovers he was being taken to the Quarantine Zone, the most diseased-ridden area of Baldur’s Gate. Monster wants to abort, refusing to take the risk of catching something. Dragoon forgot to mention this detail to Monster earlier. Oops.
They ended up fighting Bull-E for the truck, flattening the tire, and they drove aimlessly away from him. They argued about directions for a minute. Then, a biker gang attacked the truck. Dragoon and Raiden took the bikers out using bullets and magic missiles. An actual discussion occurred about right and wrong, a classic superhero discussion about killing went down too. This came into question when they discover the bikers they took down were Hero Bikers, the main—and only—heroes of Baldur’s Gate. Being put in the HERO spot here is basically a death sentence.
Dragoon is horrified to learn of this misunderstanding. He only likes to attack villains and perceived them as such. When they drive back to help the Hero Bikers, they see a bad situation unfold. Bull-E had returned and started beating the hurt Hero Bikers. It angered D-Crew. They wanted to make up for what they did. They fought Bull-E again and make sure he stayed down this time. The Hero Riders are appreciative for D-Crew and explain how they’ve been failing for years as the Heroes of Baldur’s Gate.
Hero Bikers take the rescued children and truck back to their biker shop headquarters, giving D-Crew their three bikes in exchange. D-Crew accepts and rides onward. This is fast-pace was refreshing. We’ve been having an extra good time lately.
They arrive at the Quarantine Zone and smell poop. The whole place is a Ghost Town, nobody outdoors except the Knights guarding the Dark Castle, where Icky Vicky lived. The fights in this session were incredible. D-Crew made me step up to the challenge.
D-Crew defeated the three knights outside with spectacular combos and a brand new evolution. Raiden learned how to evolve his Enkidu Owl into an Endkidu Owlbear. DM approved. Each round of knights were stronger than the last. Eventually, D-Crew were forced to short rest inside the castle. They used ‘Charmed Person’ to make two Knights into helping them out. The invasion of the Dark Castle was challenging them, and this made all the difference. (:
After the short rest, D-Crew heard explosions throughout the Dark Castle. D-Crew follow the destruction—doors busted open and Knights busted through walls—to the big boss room. They find Icky Vicky, a female demonic vampire, feeding on Roshi Nighthill on the ceiling. Raiden manages to save Roshi Nighthill, but it was at the cost of getting fed on. I love vampires, so this boss fight was just great to play out. Icky Vicky put up a good fight.
D-Crew took a role-playing moment to figure out a vampire’s weakness: sunlight, fire, wood, cutting the head off, etc. They knew a lot about classic vampire tactics. This was getting good. I love playing vampire characters, I have learned from this latest session.
Roshi Nighthill barely explains why he’s here randomly: his town Greenest was attacked by The Cult of the Dragon. His parents were killed by Icky Vicky, who had helped the cult. Roshi followed her back to Baldur’s Gate to get revenge—to be a HERO. That was a short story.
Dragoon fired Icky Vicky with lots of flame bullets. Raiden summoned his Enkidu Owl Bear Evolution. Monster was going front and center against Icky Vicky. Monster was being careful to not get bit. The Yu-Yu Hakusho OST I played created a good fighting atmosphere. Somebody managed to cut off Icky Vicky’s head. I forgot who, I think it Enkidu Owl, but Icky Vicky died and burned in the fire.
They assumed they won and rescued about 49 children from their bug jail cell. From the children who were afraid to leave their cage, they learn it wasn’t over yet. They learn Icky Vicky had a mate. Her mate, Vlad, had returned home and battles D-Crew enraged. The battle resumed with D-Crew barely recovered from their fight against Icky Vicky.
Vlad and Monster went physical with each other. Gundam attacked from afar with flame bullets. Raiden attacked using Enkidu Owl Bear, but this vampire was stronger—older—than Icky Vicky. He was fending better against their attacks. Vlad’s head wasn’t easily cut off and could regenerate back. Similar to the logic of Demon Slayer.
Vlad also summoned rats and used them to feed on Roshi Nighthill’s unguarded blood.
DOUBLE NAT 20 ON ADVANTAGE ROLL! The odds of that happening is very rare. Almost legendary. I will mark that the season two premiere had this rare dice roll happen.
This granted him insane strength, but Monster knew how to defuse Roshi’s Spirit BULK UP. The battle raged on, and Dragoon had to unleash his ultimate move. I forgot what it was officially called, but he blasted that against Vlad and the DATA DRAIN to imbue his friends with AWAKENING.
Using the power of teamwork, D-Crew managed to defeat Vlad and watch him burn into smoke and flames. They managed to cut his head off. Again, I’m forgetting who finished Vlad off. The “it’s finally over” music played, and D-Crew knew they had won. They saved the children. Except Eri Menos. Apparently, she was here but taken earlier by a “big black bird”.
D-Crew checks in with Toguro over the ear piece about this description. Toguro realizes this is Huevos Black, the older brother of Lord Eggza. He’s been alive for centuries. A S-Rank Villain. D-Crew wants to call Menos, hoping he’s alive too, to deal with this. Then, Toguro explains the situation:
Huevos Black has taken Eri Menos to use as a champion’s prize for Baldur’s Tournament, a dark tournament for violent villains and evil doers. This is for low-level criminals. Only C-Rank and lower criminals are allowed to enter. D-Crew questions the intent behind doing all this. Huevos Black is doing this for the entertainment of his son.
Toguro explains the champion team next: Team Seven. They comprise of 1) Lord Wit, Huevos Black’s cloned son and an incredible fighter. 2) A Speed Demon called Zaddy Zoomer. 3) An invisible man named Translucent. They are all C-Ranked Villains and a team D-Crew will have to face down the line.
The children are taken out of the Quarantine Zone and being housed at Hero Biker Shop with Rider and his gang. Rider reward D-Crew 500 Gold Pieces each for finishing the one-shot adventure. They did good work. The players thank Rider, and they ask him for a ride back to the docks. Of course, he accepts and takes them back. Rider also picks up Chester and AJ.
Now that the one-shot adventure’s over, it’s time to get ready for Baldur’s Tournament.
D-Crew knows this will be tough, but they have to save Eri Menos from officially falling into the hands of evil. The session ends there with them determined to fight and also a trip to the Casino.
I was really surprised, as a Dungeon Master, on how well I did this one-shot adventure. The players were feeling a dark shift in the campaign. Season Two is off to an amazing start. Can’t wait for the next session. Thanks for reading, everyone!
