Season Two Episode 2. 12 sessions overall. The campaign is going as smooth as it can. I enjoy this campaign a lot better. After the one-shot adventure in the previous session, the players are ready to tackle Baldur’s Tournament. At least they were before I asked everyone—except Gundam / Dragoon—to roll Constitution checks. They rolled a low number, which meant they had caught the Virus. Yes, the Virus.
Turns out during the one-shot adventure against the Vampires, Killion and Kai-Ku had been infected with diseases. A trip to Baldur’s Hospital (a house crammed with similar patients) revealed the truth and mission for this session. Killion had the original vamp disease that was eating away Overlord’s Yolk, the serum that was keeping him alive. It was Doctor Suresh’s serum for an exposition reminder on what I’m talking about here.
Toguro also informs the team that Vlad survived the one-shot adventure. Vlad turned into mist after his body was destroyed in fire, and he resurrected himself. He attacked Hero Biker’s Shop and killed everyone except Roshi and the children. Vlad’s pissed off, wanting revenge on D-Crew for killing his mate Icky Vicky, ruining his child trafficking, and killing him. D-Crew want to track him down, kill him, and use his blood to make a cure for the fast-moving disease.
While Killion and Kai-Ku get checked out at Baldur’s Hospital, Dragoon / Gundam decide to hunt down Vlad himself. Dragoon returns to Vlad’s Castle and meets Roshi Nighthill. I played the “battle” music, and the two faced off against each other. Roshi is brainwashed and fights on behalf of his new master Vlad. Gundam is defeated, and string up for dead. Vlad isn’t interested in killing them. He’s interested in making them suffer. Gundam was embarrassed, and wants to kill Roshi even though he wasn’t in his right mind.
Killion had an interesting time at the doctors. Kai-Ku was sealed in the panic room on the submarine for a while too. Killion exposed his heroic identity immediately to the Doctor, wanting to get health insurance for the Virus medicine he wanted. Killion wasn’t playing around with his Gold Pieces. In the end, Toguro offered his own health insurance to keep everyone—including himself—healthy. Toguro wasn’t messing around either with Virus Spreaders.
After Monster and Raiden—going back to the villain names—stop their illnesses from progressing further, they venture out to help Gundam at Vlad’s Castle. Toguro helps as well. Toguro, at 20%, fights Bull-E while Monster and Raiden find Gundam beaten and unconscious from his battle against Roshi Nighthill. They learn Roshi is in trouble, and Vlad had left to enter Baldur’s Tournament. Toguro lets Bull-E go as a result, having his honor when it comes to official matches. Vlad has requested a match against Team D-Crew.
Team Virus Spreaders: Vlad, Roshi Nighthill (brainwashed), and Bull-E. They’re worth 100 points as a team. Team D-Crew needs 700 points to enter the main rounds, where Team Seven resides as Champions of Baldur’s Tournament.
Vlad has no interest in the tournament or Eri Menos. He merely wants to stop Team D-Crew from going further to exact his revenge. At this point, Vlad is obsessed with sweet revenge.
They enter the Arena and prepare to fight with the stakes high. The audience is mostly gone, due to this virus, except for Vlad’s diseased children. Team D-Crew use awesome combos and clever tactics to knock out both Roshi and Bull-E out of the ring, but Vlad’s Spirit Energy is on a whole other level. He manages to hold his own, 3 on 1, using clones and rats to keep Team D-Crew at bay. The players couldn’t believe how strong he was in this match. Vlad kept leveling up (boss fight round two). However, Team D-Crew didn’t give up and managed to finish him again.
Vlad’s Mist appeared and escaped while the team argued how to handle the mist. They won the first round and left with Vlad’s charred body to create the cure. They decide to grab garlic, wooden stakes, and other vampire weapons to finish Vlad for good later. It didn’t occur to them that Roshi Nighthill was left behind. Again.
Monster goes back to grab Roshi while Baldur’s Doctor creates the miracle cure. Monster is enraged to find Bull-E beating an unconscious Roshi. Roshi is getting plot device lately. Monster challenges Bull-E to make him stop. During this fight, Monster discovers Bull-E’s sweat power creates a mist of its own to hide his huge presence. This made killing Bull-E complicated, but Monster found a way to finish him off.
Then, D-Crew carry Roshi back to Baldur’s Doctor for recovery. Toguro promises D-Crew that he’ll make sure Roshi gets out of Baldur’s Gate before he remembers anything else or gets hurt further. In the meantime, D-Crew went to the weapon store to get supplies and repair Monster’s White Sword (formerly Rusty Sword). A NAT 1 broke his sword.
During this time, a mob was formed, due to the Virus, and the public knowledge of Vlad’s involvement in spreading the Virus. They want to hunt Vlad, and stock up on weapons as well… by raiding the weapon store. Monster tries to hold them back while the blacksmith repairs his White Sword, but he ends up getting trampled into death saving throw mode.
Dragoon and Raiden defused the mob eventually. Then, they go to the Hotel—learning the casino is closed—after seeing the weapon store was ransacked completely. Monster survived, and he had his sword eventually fixed. At the hotel, they crash an elegant high class to gamble with them. The players managed to con 60,000 Gold Pieces out of them during a game of darts. This was crazy—Dragoon used Data Drain and Awakening—and ruined their stay at Toguro’s fancy Hotel.
Everyone stays at an Inn for the night. They decide to gamble in the morning once the cure spreads around Baldur’s Gate and find Vlad with fresh sunlight on their side. The hunt for the vampire was on.
The following morning. D-Crew went to the Black Market and bought Potions of Poison and other items I cannot recall at the moment.
D-Crew track Vlad to a cave outside Baldur’s Gate. They see him still regenerating and vulnerable. They jump him and make him beg for mercy. Vlad is staked and then mist appears. This time, D-Crew burns fresh garlic to repel and extinguish Vlad’s mist form, killing him once and for all. They are so happy to have ended the vampire threat once and for all alongside the Virus Spreaders. Everyone in Baldur’s Gate have gotten cured, and they have resumed daily criminal life. Baldur’s Gate is still a criminal city after all.
Toguro informs the team, after dropping Roshi off with a good friend to take him back to Greenest, about the next round opponents for Baldur’s Tournament worth 300 points for fast rank-up. Team Fossil, three brothers who have Earth-bending abilities. They put up a good fight, but Team D-Crew outmaneuvered their difficult terrain. After this match-up, Team D-Crew meet Team Seven, Huevos Black’s sponsored villains. Zaddy and Lord Wit scared them, but Team D-Crew—Dragoon specifically—humiliated Translucent’s thingy.
Yes, we all laughed for a solid few minutes. We couldn’t handle the outcome.
Zaddy Zoomer, a speedster, took his whole team out of there before things could escalate. This was the team to beat if they were going to win Eri Menos back from everyone else going after her in Baldur’s Tournament.
The session ends with D-Crew going to the casino to gamble. What a turn of events that made plot (tournament) and subplot (vampire virus) weave with each other in a strange way. I liked it. This season is getting darker and darker.
