Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 36 "Operation Satellite Sniper" Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Episode 36—“Operation Satellite Sniper”—was potentially a great Izzy-centric episode idea, but the forced Tai-Agumon love kind-of ruined the overall episode. The “threat to Japan” was finally addressed head-on after episodes of teasing by Izzy, but the episode didn’t give Tentomon his Mega form. The episode teased his Mega form, but it wasn’t a primary thing for Izzy or Tentomon. The “leave a party member behind” trope was also used in a wonky way, with Sora, TK, and Kari getting left behind to give Tai and Izzy the chance to reach the top of the pillar of light.
BladeKuwagamon (swarms) and MetallifeKuwagamon (the boss) were the evil Digimon of the week. The villains were even insect-themed, but Izzy was still snuffed. I was really shocked. This episode seemed so set-up for Izzy and Tentomon, but the writers went, “It doesn’t have enough Tai and Agumon in it. Let’s add BlitzGreymon. People will love that!”
The evil Digimon stood in their way just to stand in their way. I really want the Reboot to give the antagonist Digimon some personalities because making them purely obstacles isn’t working for most of us. The animation was incredibly gorgeous though. However, it gave BlitzGreymon a very poor introduction. Maybe BltizGreymon deserved it for taking the spotlight from Izzy and Tentomon, but the episode could’ve at least introduced Tai’s second Mega as sweet as WarGreymon. I’m hoping to see some Slide Evolution though because that would be lit to see.
Of course, Japan was safe once again. The stakes aren’t anything in this series. However, the next episode is called “Mimi-chan Wars!” and that’s something worth watching. It’s interesting how much more I’m appreciating Mimi’s character lately. I’m excited for the others to have the spotlight, but Tai better not steal from them with another accidental evolution. That would be the absolute worst.
Thanks for reading this episode review, everyone! I’ll see you all next week in the Digital World. Also…
