The God of High School Episode 8 “close / friend” Anime Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
The God of High School is gradually revealing more context on Park IIpyo and his connection to Jin Mori’s grandfather Jin Taejin. This episode also followed up on Han Daewi interfering in Jegal Taek’s fight, and how the punishment was Han Daewi getting suspended for a few fights in the GOH Tournament. While this episode didn’t have any real action in it aside from the match between Park IIpyo and Gwim Gi, there was more context given to help the audience understand the characters more.
While Yoo Mira and Han Daewi were interested in learning Charyeok, Jin Mori had no interest in “borrowing someone else’s power” and made the decision to get strong on his own. The best part about the episode was Han Daewi embracing the friendships he built with Yoo Mira and Jin Mori, cooking and hanging out with them that didn’t involve training. The friendship theme also added to Jin Mori’s background, and how he managed to make friends without his grandpa around to help. This friendship aspect also extended to Park IIpyo and his interest in Jin Mori.
Park IIpyo and Taek Jegal’s tense history was also briefly explored, showing there is going to be reckoning once the tournament gets going again. The God of High School is starting to learn how to balance exposition, action, and character interactions in their episodes as we progress through the first season’s second half.
Overall, the episode’s cliffhanger should have the audience on the edge of their seats. The character mysteries are set-up, the power scale is starting to become established through the trio’s training to harness Charyeok, and the fights in the GOH tournament are looking to become more God-like. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next! Thanks for reading this episode review, everyone! I’ll see you all next week!
