Genshin Impact “Chapter 4: Surprise Finding” (Part 1 + Part 2) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On October 13, 2020, I started and finished Genshin Impact Webtoon’s Chapter 4: Surprise Finding Parts 1 and 2. I’m going to assume Amber is the main protagonist for the time being, given she’s been given the most consistent screen time. Picking up where we left off in Chapter 3: Lost and Found, Amber and mysterious young girl—she still has no name—have run into Jean and Lisa, who are also investigating the black flame incident that occurred during chapter 2.
I do like the awkwardness Amber had encountering her mentor Lisa and officially meeting Jean—who had gotten her official introduction as a highly respected knight of the Favonius who works directly under the Grandmaster. The mysterious young girl and the black fire incident are also connected—she’s the indirect cause—to remind y’all, so the two plot points are starting to come together.
Also, Jean also looks like Saber from Fate/Zero and Jeanne—who looks like Saber—from Fate/Apocrypha. Given the name similarities too with Jean and Jeanne, I believe this character design was heavily based on those two characters. Jean’s character is also a noble and duty-bound knight similar to Saber, so of course she became a fan-favorite character—at least for me—instantly.
Amber, Lisa, Jean, and mysterious girl head to the library to do more research.
Amber’s personality and character motive to not be treated like a rookie—by Kaeya—is explored more during this chapter. However, she had little to no information about the black fire incident—having been asked by Jean to share intel—since she got occupied with helping the mysterious young girl. The focus on Amber could make for a great story moving forward based on the cliffhanger, assuming Genshin Impact is going to stick with her as the main protagonist.
The exposition delivery was handled better in this chapter through the entertaining character interaction and dialogue since Lisa is a librarian magic-user who loves books. Lisa is a sexualized character—and a huge flirt in the video game adaptation—so that definitely got people’s attention, but she’s the only character shamelessly sexualized in this chapter.
In my personal opinion since we’re on that particular subject, everyone—including the male characters—are definitely pretty to look at but not outright sexualized. Based on what I’ve seen so far in this Webtoon, I only noticed Lisa and Venessa with sexualized outfits. Amber definitely had some close-up shots around the thigh area—and shameless ass shots—in the artwork, but her outfit isn’t scandalous or skimpy at least.
I thought I’d point that out with Lisa officially being in the narrative. Also, she makes an interesting moaning sound when she climbs in the video game that you should be alone for. You’re welcome, Genshin Impact players!
Thanks for reading this Webtoon Review, everyone else! Let’s keep it reading into Genshin Impact’s Chapter 5: Dangerous Grounds.
