Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train: “The Dallar Show” (Episodes 172 through 195) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 13, 2020, I started Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train’s sixth story arc: “The Dallar Show” and finished on September 15, 2020. The Webtoon episodes were longer than usual—on top of them being longer than an average Webtoon episode—which made the binge-reading slightly more difficult. However, the continuous character payoffs—with Khun, Rachel, Baam, Yuri, and surprisingly newcomers Daniel and Roen—made the reading experience all the worthwhile. I was thrown when the Webtoon made me care about Daniel and Roen toward the end, but never once during the whole The Hell Train story.
The “Dallar Show” was the game Team Baam and Team Hoaqin played—with Baam’s and Hoaqin’s teammates being used as game pieces—to see who would become the official Slayer nominee. Yuri and Evan were watching the game play out from the sidelines with the train conductor Pedro.
Yuri was playing catch-up with everything going on like Baam being Jue Viole Grace and Hoaqin’s background regarding his clones and how he’s the Ten Families’ greatest enemy White—the form Hoaqin and his other clones become when merged as one. After over 200 episodes, Yuri was finally getting decent screen time beyond checking in on the search for Baam. The search is over. She found that cute boy she met back in episode 1 now a handsome man. Yuri’s obvious crush on Baam is super adorable, and something that is both hilarious and true to her character. This was another great payoff that had been set-up back in the first episode.
“The Dallar Game” also showed how much stronger Baam had become without sacrificing anyone—unlike Hoaqin, who literally ate people and forced the clones to merge with him to gain strength—and stayed true to his good-hearted nature. The contrast between the Slayer nominees’ personalities was a nice thing to highlight throughout the arc.
The artwork was also incredibly gorgeous, especially the fight scenes between them. I have been appreciating the artwork so much lately. Baam’s “power-up sword scene” was phenomenal in addition to all the other amazing sword attacks being blasted left and right.
Good work, SIU. I hope your well-needed rest is going extremely well.
How Baam was willing to save Hoaqin’s own people—even if it meant the enemy team would gain the points for the save—was a truly selfless act. Rachel and Khun’s faceoffs during the “The Dallar Show” were also amazing, with Rachel finally being put in her place. Hoaqin disrespected her too throughout this long arc, realizing quickly how useless she was. Honestly, Rachel deserves all the fan hate. She’s like Sakura Haruno from Naruto but intentionally useless and way more malicious on covering that weakness up. At least Sakura cared about her teammates and tried to be useful with her super strength and healing abilities throughout the Naruto series.
Rachel does have information on her and Baam’s past though—confirmed through Khun’s clever tactics—that could prove useful later in the story. The mystery behind their past will likely explain more on why Rachel’s an awful person too. At the end of this arc, Rachel and her team made their escape though, declaring the next time she meets Baam and Khun will be “as enemies”. What the hell, Rachel? Why would you say that? Y’all are already enemies.
Anyway, the ending to the arc—Yuri hugging Baam—was cute! I’m excited to read what the next arc will cover. I’m sure there will be a lot happening during this long-awaited reunion between Yuri, Evan, and Baam. Thanks for reading my Webtoon review, everyone! Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
