Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train: “A Month” (Episodes 166 through 171) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 12, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train’s fifth story arc: “A Month”. The arc centered around Baam and Hoaqin using the month to prepare for their showdown. Hoaqin focused on finding his other copies with Team Rachel’s help—the unexpected guest Wangnan and Yihwa met at the end of the previous arc was a copy named Vicente—while Baam focused on more character development.
I enjoyed reading Baam’s most recent breakthrough regarding Rachel, and how he acted similar to her toward his friends. During the month, Baam had to take more tests as well to qualify for the showdown against Hoaqin in one month’s time. Then later, Baam met the “God” of Guardians and underwent a weeks-long trial to awaken his “true self”. Baam did a lot of self-reflecting throughout this arc on who the person he used to be in the cave, and the person he was becoming now.
In other parts of the Hell Train, Wangnan and Yihwa teamed up with Vincente—after failing to keep him trapped in the reflection blade—and helped him get away from Hoaqin to avoid becoming one. There wasn’t much happening with them aside from Vincente explaining why the copies existed, and how Hoaqin will become an absolute monster if he merges together with all the copies—who have their own identities.
Yuri Jahad—or Zahard—and Evan finally arrived on The Hell Train. I’m liking the payoff with them waiting to see if Baam will show up to the 4th Stage in time for the showdown. I’m excited to see how Yuri and Baam’s reunion will turn out during the next arc. But first, Baam has to survive and defeat Hoaqin somehow. All the pieces are set—aside from Baam not finishing his power-up with the “God” of Guardians—for the game match between Baam and Hoaqin!
Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! I’m hyped to see where the story goes next! Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
