Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train: “Khun Edahn” (Episodes 278 through 283) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 22, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train’s fourteenth story arc: “Khun Edahn”. I thought this arc was good table setting for what’s to come regarding Data Zahard and the connection he may share with Ja Wangnan. Yes, I have a feeling that Wangnan and Data Zahard may look alike. I’ll get into that later, but I did enjoy the character moments the most during this arc.
First, how Team A and Team B were split was brilliant. Team A was Baam, Khun, Androssi, and Yu Han Sung. Team B was everyone else—Rak, Sachi, Boro, Hockney, Batis, and his daughter Medley. Rak pulled a classic “I’m already the leader of Team A” to switch and did a dab for accomplishing such a feat.
I have missed Rak so much, and the series has done a good job on staying true to his character and making his grand return to the Webtoon series so naturally chill. The comedic moment of Androssi staying with Baam—and making Khun and Yu Han Sung team up—with Rak in tow—during the split up of Team A was also hilarious.
Rachel was also given some dedicated screen time during this arc, using her Icarus Avatar persona to manipulate Team Baam into helping her achieve her goals—first by giving Rak a better spear, which he greatly appreciated—and making a deal with a Big Breeder. Classic Rachel, but everyone was finding her “Icarus” persona suspicious with her fake acting and Yu Han Sung already spotting a “Big Breeder” bracelet on Icarus.
We also met more Data Khun family members in this arc aside from Khun’s Father Khun Edahn. There were Data Asensio and Data Maschenny—a Zahard’s Princess—in addition to Khun’s Sworn Enemy, Khun Kiseia. I did like the clever twist on setting up a potential father-son confrontation between Khun and Khun Edahn, only for a Khun to face off against his sister instead. There was strong tension—and an unexplored history—between the siblings that made their violent fight scene quite compelling.
Aside from meeting Khun Edahn and receiving the exposition, Team B didn’t do much in this arc. The exposition about the Mirror World and Data Zahard changing after meeting the real Zahard was intriguing in addition to not seeing his face; we only saw his yellow hair. This similarity is where the “Ja Wangnan might be connected to Zahard” theory—at least in appearance—came into play.
I’m curious to see how Ja Wangnan is connected to everything, as we still haven’t fully explored his relationship with Karaka either. I have chosen wisely when I declared Ja Wangnan my favorite character. Tower of God has a brilliant plot structure with great character-driven momentum. SIU should be really proud of this massive Webtoon series, and how he’s been able to keep it moving for a whole decade. I’m excited to see everyone officially meet Data Zahard in the next arc!
Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! I appreciate it! Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
