Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train: “Zahard’s Data” (Episodes 284 through 287) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 22, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train’s fifteenth story arc: “Zahard’s Data”. The background stories on Khun and Androssi were explored in this arc, as they explained why Kiseia—his cousin and younger sister due to adoption, not incest—and the Snake Charmer were their Sworn Enemies.
The darkness behind what happened between them—Khun betrayed Kiseia and Androssi holds subconscious resentment toward Snake Charmer for it killing her adoptive parents—was insightful and telling of their characters. After over 300+ Tower of God episodes, it was nice to hear more about Khun and Androssi’s backgrounds since they’ve been around since the beginning.
They both claimed it was “whatever” and became nonchalant about their stories, but Androssi claiming that she was “happy” about what Snake Charmer did was a blatant lie that everyone noticed. If she truly was over it—“happy”—like she said she was, the Snake Charmer wouldn’t have manifested as her Sworn Enemy. Rak comically cried out that he didn’t want to know. We have missed you so much, leader of the Turtles.
Data Zahard made his official debut in this arc, and proved to be more than a match against Baam. There was no confirmation or debunk of my Wangnan theory so far.
Anyway, Data Zahard and Data Khun Edahn—sometimes spelled “Eduan”—battled using their Godly powers and negotiated. Khun Edahn proposed he train Baam for one month to see if he could become stronger than Data Zahard, offering to delete himself and reveal Baam’s identity if he lost the bet. Also, Data Zahard will get to kill all of Baam’s companions. Data Zahard accepts the wager, curious to see if the boy—son of Arlene Grace and V—could surpass him if given the appropriate amount of time to train.
However, Data Zahard proved to be ruthless—not exactly honorable—when he went to kill Data Khun Edahn’s Data children. He hated that Khun Edahn kept calling him a “fake” and claiming that he was more “adventurer” and not a “king” like his real self out on the outside world. Data Zahard’s character design did look more superhero than king—I’d argue it was a mixture of the both—so there was some real truth to what Edahn was saying.
Rachel also met up with her team again—minus Wangnan and Miseng—where she learned about Ha Yura’s familial backstory and connection to the Hidden Floor. I did enjoy learning more background in this arc; hearing about Ha Yura—the idol singer—was surprising and a good payoff considering SIU did set-up her connection to The Hell Train and the Hidden Floor back when she first showed up during the “Revolution Road” arc.
Tower of God is going to get more entertaining once this training arc kicks off! What kind of special powers will Baam learn this time? Will Rachel ever stop being annoying? I’m curious to see what happens next, and how The Hell Train story will ultimately end. Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
