Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train: “The Hidden Hidden Floor” (Episodes 275 through 277) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 21, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train’s thirteenth story arc: “The Hidden Hidden Floor”. While a short arc, it was enough to give us enough context on what’s been going on with the arc so far and where everyone’s going next. Basically, the arc decided to go Sword Art Online mixed with Star Ocean: Til the End of Time. The arc focused on Rachel’s time with the Big Breeder—who acted like a Gamer with the VR Helmet—and her discovery about the Hidden Hidden Floor, where the Data Zahard and his cronies reside to assert dominance over the “lesser” data people.
Of course, Rachel took full advantage and entered the Hidden Floor using the VR Helmet. She created a new avatar—making herself look beautiful—and called herself Icarus. She wanted to find her teammates—Wangnan, White, Karaka, Miseng, and Yura were somewhere on the Hidden Floor too. Rachel is also a horrible actor when she met Baam again, who immediately suspected her of being sketchy but not as Rachel. I have a fun time hating Rachel honestly—it’s not healthy.
Batis mourning over his love Rose went tragically with the exposition delivery regarding the Hidden Floor, and how the Upper-Class Data People dominated them to keep them from finding the Hidden Hidden Floor. I was feeling Batis’ humanity.
After this, Yu Han Sung explained the true nature of the Hidden Floor and the Hidden Hidden Floor to Team Baam, and how the Big Breeders have been giving Regulars false quests to keep them from entering the Hidden Hidden Floor. Boro and Sachi had a difficult time following the plot, so Hockney made a simplified chart for them.
If you don’t understand, just memorize:
1. You’ve been to the Hidden Floor
2. We came to meet Data of Zahard
3. Big Breeder is actually an enemy and his quest is fake
4. What we beat just now is the real one!
The self-awareness in this series regarding the plot was a nice touch. Number 4 referred to Baam, Khun, Rak, Boro, and Sachi killing a bunch of rats to clear the real grand quest. I had Final Fantasy VII Remake flashbacks seeing them murder all those big rats.
Androssi and Yu Han Sung confront Androssi’s Sworn Enemy—a Snake Charmer—who ended up killing all the Data people in the Quarantine Area. Now, I’m having coronavirus pandemic 2020 vibes. The arc ends though with potential for Khun to finally have character development.
Team Baam cleared the real quest, and they’re heading to the next stage! The person they have to meet on the next stage is Khun Eduan—Khun’s father! At least a data version of him, but that made Khun feel unnerved. I’m excited to see how this conversation will go with Khun confronting his past with a past version of his father. The Rachel-Icarus aspect is infuriating but also interesting for the plot. We shall see how this will turn out.
