Tower of God Volume 3: “Stealing the Fang 2” (Episodes 22 and 23) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On October 2, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 3’s sixth story arc: “Stealing the Fang 2”. I think I mentioned this in a previous Webtoon review, but I’ve been enjoying the shortened arcs. This arc centered around Karaka and Baam wanting to make a deal with Baylord Doom—seeing it as the best way to stop him from taking over and preserving the canine people since Doom’s life is tethered to that whole race.
Karaka even bets his Slayer title to get Doom on board with the deal in addition to pitting Baam against a Ranker. The deal is everyone has to play “Stealing the Fang”, and whoever gets the fang first wins. That’s the whole game with rules that make it difficult for Doom to win outright. Pitting Baam against a Ranker was a way for Doom to get a head start on retrieving the fang.
I loved the action sequence between Baam and the Ranker. The Flare Wave Explosion was beautifully drawn, showing elements of Evankhell’s intricate fire. The attention to detail revealed how much Baam valued Evankhell as his latest teacher.
We also learned that Deng Deng is still alive—needing his own heart to wake him up before he dies for good. Apparently, canine people die slowly when they get their hearts ripped out and not outright immediate. Gado tempted Baam with another fight to save Deng Deng’s life.
Yama was dealing with the Elder’s Envoy, who was buying time for the FUG Elder to arrive. I enjoyed Yama’s demonic character design throughout this arc, and the expansion on his character development. Despite Yama threatening to kill his brother Doom and saying he doesn’t care about the canine people; his actions speak otherwise—especially when Yama eventually bowed to the Elder’s Envoy on their behalf.
Overall, I enjoyed how the stakes are gradually rising. Baam and Gado’s fight should be an interesting one, given how they both expressed their feelings about Deng Deng and how their fight will determine whether the boy lives or dies. I am curious to figure out why Gado did what he did to Deng Deng, and the mystery behind Louie too. There’s more to this Gado, Deng Deng, and Louie that hadn’t been said yet.
Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone. I really appreciate it. Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
