Tower of God Volume 3: “Baylord Doom” (Episodes 20 and 21) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On October 1, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 3’s fifth story arc: “Baylord Doom”. I have got to say, I’m loving the consistent short arcs. It reminds me of when I read Tower of God’s Volume 1 during the first week of September 2020. I’ve come a long way since then—climbing the Tower. Anyway, the arc centered around Baylord Doom and his history with brothers Yama and Paul.
Apparently, Baylord Doom is the source of all canine people’s transformations and if he dies, all the canine people die. The stakes change drastically once Baam and Karaka learn about this from Yama, who’s determined to end Doom even if it means his whole race goes extinct. Of course, Baam wants to find another way—literally suggesting a game—using the logic that Doom wouldn’t want to risk a one-on-one fight with Yama given that he lost the last battle.
This arc was excellent with exposition and tying the storylines together. Rak and Khun’s fight against FUG turned into an escape from Baylord Doom—who had just awakened after Gado restored his heart. Leesoo and Hatsu met another one of Yama’s followers—Ruel Mon—who helps them out in exchange for meeting Androssi. This character represented the fans who have “Waifus”. Yu Han Sung and Evankhell encounter an Elder FUG, who point them toward a different path.
The Elder FUG plans to kill Yama and Baam—heading to The Cage now to complete the task—and elect a new Slayer, keeping Yu Hang Sung and Evankhell busy with their “destiny”. I’m enjoying the plot development and longer episodes, but sometimes I have a hard time keeping track of everything going on as a result of the added content.
Of course, I’m binge-reading this Webtoon so that might be affecting my ability to keep track to a certain extent. The Evankhell and Khun sub-plots were the ones I had a hard time keeping up with. Leesoo never fails to keep my attention—seriously, what is it with this guy? He’s like Tower of God’s Sokka from Avatar the Last Airbender.
Evankhell’s fire artwork represents hell on the pages—like the artwork keeps getting better every time I see it. I love the intricate detail behind the fires, making the pages appear so gorgeous. I’m running out of things to say about Tower of God’s artwork at this point other than it keeps getting better and the pure beauty behind every stroke. Thank you so much, SIU. Keep up the good work and your well-earned rest!
Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone else! I appreciate the support. Let’s keep it climbing to the “Stealing the Fang 2” arc.
