Tower of God Volume 2: The Prince of Zahard: “The Preys” (Episodes 19 through 21) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this webtoon review. Please read with caution.
On September 4, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2: The Prince of Zahard’s fifth story arc: “The Preys”. This arc made me realize how well-crafted these past few arcs were into making Ja Wangnan the perfect foil to Viole—the character who will remind him of the Baam he used to be. Ja Wangnan’s character development throughout The Prince of Zahard made him worthy of being the secondary protagonist.
I was losing faith at first with Tower of God, but I trusted the Webtoon enough to keep climbing up the Tower for the payoff. I’m excited to see what happens with Viole and learning how Baam become this loner person affiliated with FUG, an organization dedicated to killing Zahard.
The artwork was improved dramatically in this arc, with earlier hints being seen in the previous arc—“The Untrustworthy Room”. The fight scene and Ja Wangnan’s emotional scenes were magnified—through the art—to extraordinary levels that made me want to play sad OST to the words Wangnan was spitting out to Lurker. Hearing Lurker’s background and how he was similar to Wangnan was also an emotional scene. This whole arc was an emotional rollercoaster that resonated with the audience and Viole.
The arc’s ending also officiated created the eight-person team—the actual major characters going forward into the next arc—and who ultimately passed the test:
1. Viole
2. Ja Wangnan
3. Miseng
4. Goseng
5. Akraptor
6. Horyang
7. Prince
8. Yeon Yihwa
Out of the eight characters—aside from Viole, Ja Wangnan, and Yeon Yihwa—the one I found most intriguing was Horyang, when he went to rescue Prince from Rapdevil—one of Lurker’s followers. Horyang had strong fighting power—a Devil in his right arm—and a past so mysterious that he made Rapdevil promise to keep their encounter a secret after beating him. This was a character who valued his privacy. I’m looking forward to learning more about the other characters and how their team dynamic with Viole will be moving forward.
Tower of God Volume 2: The Prince of Zahard is almost done setting the table with Viole’s new team formed for the next test. I’m looking forward to reading the Epilogue—the 100th Tower of God episode overall based on my math—and seeing where the story goes next. Thanks for reading my Webtoon review, everyone! I really appreciate y’all keeping me company. Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
