Tower of God Volume 2: The Prince of Zahard: “The Untrustworthy Room” (Episodes 11 through 18) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this webtoon review. Please read with caution.
On September 4, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2: The Prince of Zahard’s fourth story arc: “The Untrustworthy Room”. While the rules to the latest test were kind-of complicated to follow, I did enjoy the message behind the test: Teamwork! The basis of the test is for the other participants—like Ja Wangnan—to conquer rooms and gain allies before Viole could defeat the Ranker and steal Yeon’s room.
Viole and Yeon’s brief faceoff did showcase how much stronger Baam had become as Viole, effortlessly defeating Yeon’s “Flame Thrower” and leaving their room to fight the Ranker. The design on the Ranker—Love—is drawn more cartoony than any other character in Tower of God, which made him an instant favorite right away.
The fight scene between Viole and Love is also drawn beautifully, reminding me of the artwork that was shown earlier in the series but better. SIU is gradually becoming more consistent with the artwork as the Webtoon progresses. Viole is also incredibly strong, giving the Ranker a hard time throughout the action sequence.
The other characters are growing on me. Ja Wangnan continues to be a hilarious fan-favorite and his friendship with Nia was something I should’ve appreciated more. The unexpected twist in their friendship—and Nia’s tragic backstory—threw me for a loop.
Side note: I will never look at Sweet and Sour Pork the same way ever again. I’m going to eat that more often now.
I also liked the arc’s dark ending, making Lurker—the loan shark that Wangnan owes a debt to—a more significant main antagonist for the next upcoming arcs. Hopefully, this event will make the characters more united against Lurker while also making them more willing to side with Viole and vice-versa. We also learned that Viole’s goal is to still find Rachel, but he doesn’t know if it’s for revenge or not yet. Not until he sees her again up at the Tower.
This was an interesting story arc indeed. Thanks for reading my Webtoon review, everyone! Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
