Station 19 2x17 "Into The Wildfire" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Season Two finale had the “end of the world” vibes. The wildfires in Los Angeles caught up with our Station 19 characters as they traveled out there to aid their fellow firefighters. This had lots of drama, intense flames, and the near-hookup of Andy and Sullivan. This finale was resolving our season-long arcs while setting up the next steps for their renewed season three. I’m incredibly invested in this series and the Grey’s crossover potential.
The fire was grand and beautiful while at the same time, terrifying. The ashes reminded me of Mistborn’s constant ash rains, and the crazy wildfire that almost burned Andy and Sullivan before they dove into the swimming pool for protection. Showing intense wildfires on mainstream television and in this season two finale was an amazing choice, and I do admire those who have to deal with them to protect their homes.
Despite the madness though, the crew managed to keep things lighter with certain characters’ priorities. Dean and Jack are prime examples. Dean was focused on saving a cat (like the dog from season 1), and Jack was not happy to hear everyone thought him and Maya wouldn’t last.
On the other hand, Ben Warren decided to pull his usual Grey’s tactic and amputated a man’s arm without proper instruction (or protocol). I’m glad this had consequences for him during his Medic One interview. He needs to learn to stop being career swapping, risk-taking, and whatever is going on with him. This is going to lead into an interesting season three for the surgeon firefighter.
Pruitt and Ryan pick up Travis from jail before heading to Los Angeles to join the others. They are the ones helping the firefighters in the tents, and maneuvering everyone else to the safest locations. This made the season finale more personal compared to the first season finale involving the skyscraper. I’m troubled for what’s next: Andy feels rejected, Sullivan’s leg is acting up, Travis is arrested because punched guy wants to press charges, Ben’s chances of getting in Medic One practically went down the drain, and Ryan wants to keep the stolen money from his father.
Season three is going up in flames (pun totally intended).
