Grey's Anatomy 15x22 "Head Over High Heels" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
This episode focuses on Meredith Grey’s inability to tell Zola and the other children about her relationship to Andrew DeLuca. After Zola catches DeLuca in the midst of leaving the house, Meredith has to figure out how to introduce the man / define the relationship.
Meredith’s story ties into Bailey’s minor subplot centered on Tuck calling Ben “dad” and her ex-husband overhearing it.
Jo is showing up to work drunk because she is processing her status as a rape child and not telling Alex or anyone else about it is making her behavior worse. Alex threatens to tell Bailey the next thing it happens, and Jo threatens to leave him if he keeps pushing her to talk about what she’s not talking about.
Richard Webber is reunited with an old friend who fell off the wagon after their sponsor Ollie died. They have a tense friendship that is cushioned with light humor centered on the high-heel stuck in her chest. This was a good character story for Richard who’s been struggling with sobriety the entire series.
Owen is going to therapy at the urging of his sister, Megan. The payoff was amazing in these scenes. After ten years of Owen Hunt (he was introduced in season five) being a broken man, he finally gets his first major breakthrough. His past as a young kid was where it all began, and now he can finally work on everything else wrong with him.
I hope he chooses himself instead of putting Amelia and Teddy through the ringer again.
Nico and Levi have their first major conflict. Nico is applying to other hospital jobs across the country, and Levi is scared they won’t make long-distance work. However, the conflict takes an unexpected twist when Nico makes a mistake in the OR and kills a patient. This sullies Nico who needs a break from Levi while he deals with the guilt.
Overall, an amazing episode with emotional payoffs all around for the original characters like Owen Hunt, Meredith Grey, Jo Karev, and Richard Webber. Miranda Bailey’s ex Tucker even got a mention. It’s been a very long time since he was last seen and mentioned.
