Station 19 2x16 "For Whom The Bells Tolls" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
Station 19’s penultimate episode followed up on Chief Ripley’s tragic death. This is an effective television hour because it showed how Ripley’s death affected not only Vic but everyone else at the Station 19 firehouse. Let’s dive into this review, and figure out what’s going on post-death.
Vic is lashing out on everyone, including her best friend Travis, and plans not to attend the funeral. It wasn’t until Levi (from Grey’s) visited the Station to tell Vic about Ripley’s flower shop incident that she realizes the truth. This is important as her character accepts her loss and attends the funeral to say her final goodbye to Ripley along with everyone else.
Sullivan is affected because Ripley was his best friend, and the funeral arrangement reminds him of his wife’s funeral. Andy misses her mom during this time, but the circumstances do allow Andy and Maya a way out of the Jack-related issue. They realize their fight wasn’t more important than grief and that life’s too short.
Travis, on the other hand, starts beating up another firefighter at a bar because he was disrespectful to Vic and Ripley’s romance. Overall, this was a powerful episode because this series learned how to use Grey’s tropes effectively. The season finale will be an interesting one as it is the next upcoming episode to wrap up an excellent season two.
