The Good Place 4x06 "A Chip Driver Mystery" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
The Good Place is finally getting to the human experiments in this episode. The events of this story are told through Michael and Bad Janet as they try to understand what makes humans work. Six months have also passed, but that makes me wonder if it’s “linear” or “Jeremy Bearinmy” six months. This random question might be my brain exploding like Chidi’s when he noticed the dot.
Brent wrote a bad novel based on everyone in the Good Place meshed with lots of other genres, and had the chip driver, based on himself, solve the mystery on page 10. Simone and Brent are the major conflict as she doesn’t want to downplay her beliefs like she did on Earth. Tahani takes her side halfway through the episode while Eleanor tries to keep everyone together despite the horrid Brent unleashes.
Chidi, Jason, and John’s arc was handled pretty low-key. This also added to the new human characters, and how John managed to not gossip Jason’s deception. Chidi’s dancing was also nice to add. I hope everyone’s going to be okay by the end of this.
Anyways, Michael tells the events of this episode to convince Bad Janet to join their team. I liked this structure, and the messages it tried to convey. While Eleanor’s method to keep everyone improving worked initially, it wasn’t meant to work forever. Tricking people into change is not the ultimate answer. Michael’s role in the episode was effective as narrator, he chose to enforce the positives onto Bad Janet to get his point across.
We have to be better than the people we were yesterday.
That’s the message Michael conveys to Bad Janet on her way back home to the Bad Place. Michael releasing Bad Janet from Good Janet’s void is his way of accomplishing that goal. The way he sprays the room afterwards was pretty darn funny to boot.
