The Good Place 4x07 "Help Is The Other People" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
The premise of this season finally blew up in their faces. After three seasons of plot twists that keep us on our toes, The Good Place pulled a fast one to save the experiment before it all ended. We’re on the last day of the experiment, and even a countdown clock had been put into the sky. The only thing that’s stopping the Soul Squad from 100% succeeding is Simone’s on-point suspicions about where they truly are.
Simone discovers that Eleanor and Michael focus their attentions all on them, and can’t figure out how Brent made it in The Good Place. She’s dissecting the flaws that us as an audience picked at throughout the season. The experiment falls further apart when it’s revealed that Jason has been pretending, and Chidi knew about this ruse. This leads to Brent going on about The Best Place, something Simone cannot comprehend. Brent + Simone’s interactions are my favorite.
Jason’s football advice was really coherent, something he didn’t do on purpose. The Soul Squad decides to dump Brent into the hole. This is an ethical question that will force the humans’ hands. It would be too easy to save anyone else because… they’re not Brent. The experiment fails to convince Simone or John, which means Chidi tries to play hero… and down the hole he goes.
Eventually, Eleanor and Michael pull one more move that could win it for them. Once Chidi realizes they’re in the Bad Place, the reenactment of the season one twist occurs beautifully with Ted Danson and Kristen Bell. Brent realizing he’s a bad person was an actual human moment. I was surprised to watch that go down before the clock ran out.
It’s difficult to imagine everyone getting out of this shirt mess in one piece, but the show is clearly gearing up for their endgame. The second half of the season will have answers. The Good Place will end on a high note.
