Legacies 2x04 "Since When Do You Speak Japanese?" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
This episode centered on a Japanese Samurai and an Oni Demon who can possess people had a lot of love in it. Hope is settling into her new norm, Josie speaks Japanese and has a protectiveness over Landon without the proper context, Lizzie learns the truth about her new love Sebastian, and MG gets dragged into that mess. Alaric and the Sheriff have an ongoing flirtation, which I hope becomes something. After eight seasons of TVD being sad and alone, Alaric Saltzman deserves some happiness.
I’m not a fan of Landon and Josie. That’s all I have to say about them. Rafael and Hope are on the road to becoming friends again, but Rafael’s intense feelings for her are somehow resurfacing despite the memories being gone. I’m not a fan of Hope and Rafael together either, but they worked so well as friends in the first season.
Aside from his feelings for Hope, Rafael is dealing with his wolf aggression. He stayed as a wolf for so long that it’s affected his mental state quite a bit. The road to recovery won’t be easy, but luckily he has good friends.
Landon and Hope scenes were too heartbreaking. I was upset that Hope actually got the chance to confess her secret to Landon, but he was possessed by the Oni and didn’t get to hear it.
Josie is dealing with Black Magic and Professor Vardemus (Alexis Denisof). She’s gradually being tempted to join the dark side, but she’s resisting the dark magic. However, she had no choice but to use it in order to save Lizzie from the Oni. The amazing sister-saving moment. It made Hope a bystander, which was hilarious.
I feel bad for both Lizzie and MG in this episode. Lizzie’s quest to heal hit a serious bump when MG reveals Sebastian was never real to begin with. However, I did laugh very hard at her ice cream sundae scene. My brother, who was watching with me, couldn’t help the laughter either. Lizzie Saltzman is a much better character this season, and having Lizzie be the first person to remember Hope Andrea Mikaelson was perfect.
Overall, this was a good episode filled with lots of fun and a twist on the memory front. The next episode should be amazing as Lizzie’s going to confront Hope for the memory loss.
