Legacies 2x01 "I'll Never Give Up Hope" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
After the first season concluded, everyone moved on. Lizzie went to Europe to visit her mother, off-screen Caroline Forbes. Josie stayed behind to watch over their father, Alaric, who’s spiraling into obsessiveness. Landon is taking care of wolf Rafael, who’s becoming less human as the summer progressed. MG went to Kaleb’s hometown for the summer, so they can “bro it out”. Hope, in the meanwhile, realized she didn’t die, and found herself trapped in Malivore.
Hope is also stuck with Clarke, Landon’s older brother, and they still hate each other. Luckily, Hope is able to do magic and that keeps them alive from the other monsters trying to kill them. However, Hope uses a truth spell on Clarke to figure out what he’s hiding from her. Clarke reveals that Malivore is trying to expel her out and he wants to follow her, but every time he “saves” Hope, the portal out closes.
After Hope escapes and leaves Clarke behind, she heads back to the Salvatore School. Dorian doesn’t remember her, and she sees Landon and Josie kissing each other, breaking her heart. She decides to leave Mystic Falls, but projection subconscious Landon convinces her to stay and help her friends.
Clarke makes a deal with his father Malivore to leave so he can have his revenge on Hope Mikaelson. Then, a red-hooded figure lit a fire magic symbol in the cemetery while the portal to leave Malivore opens for the guy. This is how the episode ends.
Overall, the season two premiere was a reestablishment of the new status quo that will define the rest of the season. I’m confident the fun will start-up once summer break ends for our young friends next week, and everyone goes back to school.
