Supernatural 15x01 "Back And To The Future" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
“The End” has arrived, according to Chuck. Sam, Dean, and Castiel are in another fight for the universe. They battle the zombies like it’s The Walking Dead. They learn pretty quickly that these aren’t zombies, but spirits that hitched rides in the nearest bodies available, thus the entire cemetery. This also includes a demon who possesses Jack’s dead corpse.
Alexander Calvert didn’t appear as Jack in this episode, but as a demon who ends up being “Crowley Jr.” This was a fun, albeit tragic, way to include him in the fun and to show how much Castiel is grieving Jack. He can’t stand to look at the demon, but the Winchesters keep him around because the plot demands it. The demon’s knowledge of a containment spell keeps him on the team.
The demon also brings up Dean’s time in Hell with Alastair and all the souls he tortured. Of course, Dean isn’t talking about that, but I wonder if Chuck released the innocent souls too from Hell too, the ones who made deals and were sent there post-death. Will those innocent souls come for Dean? I wonder… Also if the Cage is open, why didn’t Michael and Adam leave yet? Final season is too real.
The Woman In White and Bloody Mary returned from first season. I couldn’t believe the references and close calls in this episode. Everything the Winchesters did for the past fifteen years was undone by the Great God Chuck Himself.
The Ending Scene, mirroring the Pilot Scene of “We Got Work To Do”, was beautifully put together. Sam is the voice of reason this time saying if they beat this, the 3 billion souls that got out of Hell, then they’ll win. They assumed God left to create another “world draft”, but I’m still worried about Sam’s wound from that Equalizer Gun. That’s going to bite them back in the ass for sure.
