How To Get Away With Murder 5x09 "He Betrayed Us Both" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
I actually enjoyed a lot about this episode. The flashback revealed Annalise’s motherly love for West, what the adoption is, and Sam’s knowledge of Gabriel, his son. I was mostly invested because it expanded Annalise, Frank, Bonnie, and Sam’s characters with Eve back as well. Her return made the episode so much better, she was the one who was contacting Frank about Gabriel. She was also the one who helped Frank hide the truth in the flashback.
She has always been a great character, and I am happy the show brought her back on to help Annalise process Gabriel’s existence.
Bonnie, in the present, is going through so much guilt for the role she played in ending Miller. My heart broke for her, but the flashbacks helped remind us where she came from, and also how far she’s come since then. It also confirmed that Bonnie and Frank had a romantic relationship back then too.
Sam Keating’s email to Vivian and Gabriel was the worst. This man has been dead for five seasons now, and he still finding ways to haunt Annalise from beyond the grave. We also saw how he grieved their baby, by seeking out the son he never got to know.
The Keating 4 + Oliver discuss the Gabriel revelation. They’re mad at Laurel for not telling them and Oliver jokes about killing Gabriel. He is so broken… he used to be so innocent before meeting these people… “Happy Wedding”. Asher’s comment about Miller made me feel bad for this group… they need help.
Overall, I enjoyed all the answers we got about events in the past. The current storyline might actually benefit with a lot of the truth out there. Let’s see how the aftermath of Miller’s death will play out.
