Young Justice: Outsiders 3x07 - 3x09 Episode Reviews
Major spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
I have watched the latest batch of Young Justice episodes, and a lot went down, but in very satisfying ways. We also discovered who The Outsiders actually are in this universe. The three episodes also worked in adult humor and sex… The blood and gore are also back when it came to Halo and Forager. Let’s dive into the specifics of how the episodes were structured to advance the story.
Episode 7 centered on Vandal Savage’s origin. This has been done numerous times, but it also establishes his alliance with Darkseid in the 13th century to protect each other, bringing us up to speed on Vandal’s motives for Earth. It also focuses on Dick, Artemis, and Connor training Brion, Violet, and Forger, getting them their supersuits and code-names: Geo-Force, Halo, and Forager.
Episode 8 revealed the Outsiders of the series, who are lead by Batman. The episode was split into three stories lead by three heroes: Nightwing, Robin, and Aquaman (Kaldur, formerly Aqualad). The missions are revealed to be connected in the end, with Wonder Woman raising the question of how far they’ve fallen.
Episode 9 shows how close the new team (Geo-Force, Halo, and Forager) are getting with one another and how adult the younger heroes from the original series have become. Dick, Artemis, and Connor have grown to become great complex characters, who have earned being these mentors to the next generation. Young Justice is strangely getting older, but calling it Adult Justice would be weird. There is also a great fight scene with blood; the team faces off against Lobo.
Pace yourself well while watching these episodes. There is a lot of world-building going on, and paying close attention will help make the moving pieces fit easier. I’m enjoying how the series is crafting their characters and how the story rose the stakes higher with the reveal of Darkseid’s involvement. Overall, I’m so happy this show is back!
