Legacies 1x05 "Malivore" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with Caution.
I was blown away by a lot of what happened. The character-driven stories proved fantastic and complex. In terms of the plot, we actually got a little progress with a talking monster and the photo of Landon’s mother wearing the symbol. Otherwise, this story helped along the characters and their motivations.
The simple plot of the episode is Alaric organizing an Honor Council to give his students’ a voice in how the school is ran. The subplot is Alaric and Dorian trying to figure out why all these monsters want the mystery knife.
The monster of the week is a Dryad (like a tree nymph). She possesses the convenient ability to talk English. It’s a rare ability for these monsters to have. Especially the English part. I was moved by her love story and how she died: the beautiful tree! Her centuries-old vampire lover failed to recognize her, but we got a sweet Bonnie mention. I really hope Kate Graham changes her mind someday and reprise her role. The same goes for any other TVD character who isn’t Matt Donovan.
Alaric pours his heart out to the Dryad over his own lost love (Jo!). If Alaric doesn’t find happiness in this show, I’m going to feel so bad for him. He lost Isabel, Jenna, Meredith (to Alaska!), and Jo! I don’t count Caroline at all. He needs to have some romance.
Hope and Landon are rebuilding their relationship. She is assigned to give him supernatural tests to identify his species. Let’s say, he fails every single of them. He does not have any cool powers. The chemistry between them was better in this episode, especially when they kissed in the middle of the street. We need more of them. I want to know who the “family friend” is in New Orleans. Marcel? Vincent? Declan?
Lizzie is full-on campaigning and even gets Rafael as her date to her sixteenth birthday party. Josie is uncomfortable and awkward. She is easily becoming my favorite character. She’s really adorable. How she hid behind the clipboard had me dying on the floor. I’m not a fan of Lizzie and Rafael hooking up together.
However, Penelope surprised me with her latest revelation. She wants to destroy Lizzie and orchestrated Josie’s election to the Honor Council. This is somewhat nice of her because she wants Josie to become her own person outside of her sister. Penelope also hinted that the Twins’ closeness is what broke her and Josie up. I am here for the drama!
MG and Kaleb engaged in a political war. Poor kid. He can’t catch a break. Needless to say, Kaleb steals the vampire seat on the Honor Council. MG dressed so nicely, only to lose to someone trapped in a cage. That’s some crazy influence he had going.
The episode was filled with a lot of emotion. I’m so happy with all the characters. They’re all likable and the pairings are endless. Next week promises more drama with the monster of the week being the Twins’ Biological Mother Jo! Watch the newest promo! It’s so good!
