Grey's Anatomy 15x06 "Flowers Grow Out of My Grave" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please Read with Caution.
This episode killed every Grey’s fan out there. Let’s leave it at that until we get further down in the episode review. It fleshed out a lot of our new characters, Nico and Link, and also helped Meredith figure out what it means to learn about her father’s impending death.
She did not have the best relationship with him growing up, and we learn in this episode, that they stopped speaking after Lexie died. This makes a lot of sense in the dialogue when Meredith tells everyone that she only spoke to Thatcher because Lexie made them.
Like yeah, that just clicked for me, not sure about anyone else. Meredith is struggling with the idea of reaching out to him or not.
Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is honored in this episode. It took 300+ episodes, but Grey’s managed to squeeze this holiday in, rather than do another Halloween special. I think they did the holiday justice with how the patient’s family celebrates before her surgery.
Meredith reflects on the ones she lost over the years, which sparks “Chasing Cars” in Spanish and a montage of past friends and loved ones. George, Ellis, Doc the Dog, Lexie, Derek, and Mark all appear throughout the sequence to show they’re watching over Meredith on this special day. All Grey’s Fans were crushed by this unexpected moment. I was destroyed…
Link and DeLuca are beginning to show active interest in Meredith. She entertains the idea but takes the stairs instead. The love triangle could be fun… I’m personally rooting for DeLuca, but Link has a real chance here too. In all honesty, I think Meredith should be alone, but I also think she needs to find love again someday.
Teddy is getting ready to tell Owen about their baby, but after helping him and Amelia try to find Betty, and seeing how happy he is in the life he has, she chooses to walk away without telling him. This is going to hurt everyone involved… Teddy! This will not end well for you.
She’s literally setting herself, Owen, and Amelia for some serious heartbreak.
Maggie and Jackson are going through a rough patch. Not much development in this area.
Link reveals he used to have cancer to a patient with the same diagnosis and cuts his gorgeous hair to give his patient courage. He looked ridiculous, but his gesture was well-intended. I’m sure we’re going to explore more of his past later on.
Nico and Glasses are flirting. They even make out in the elevator. Then Glasses reveals to Nico that he hadn’t kissed a man before. This causes Nico to break things off, not wanting to go back in the closet or help Glasses out with his “coming out”. I kind of laughed when Glasses tried to change it into a “teaching moment”.
Jo and Bailey do the impossible on the Day of the Dead. They revive an organ in a deceased patient. The liver is alive and functional. These two surgeons are the best team.
I also appreciated another patient, the one will receive the “resurrected” liver, calling Jo “Dr. Karev”. Such a small thing to take notice of. But Alex doesn’t want them doing the transplant for “legal reasons” or something. Of course, Jo and Bailey do the transplant anyway to save the woman’s life. They are successful and all is well.
At least for the patient.
Bailey is going through her stress problems, which she realizes is connected to her husband, Ben Warren. This issue stems back to his job over at Station 19. The storyline passes over and resolves in the latest episode of the spin-off.
Overall, this episode passes and has set up a lot of plot points for future episodes to explore.
