How To Get Away With Murder 5x03 "The Baby Was Never Dead" Episode Review
Major spoilers are included in this episode. Read with Caution.
I’m growing tired of this show. Let me start with that. We’re three episodes into the season, and something keeps bothering me about it. I think it’s all this discussion about what makes a person a killer or a bad person and how that’s not exactly the same concept.
Like most of the characters have killed at this point or have done ambiguous things or died. This isn’t even up for discussion, most of our main protagonists have committed awful crimes and expect to live out their days like they can start over. Granted, that’s exactly what they’re doing, but damn enough’s enough!
Michaela is trying to get back with Tegan… professionally! However, this show blurs the lines so much, I guess there’s no real difference. Examples include Annalise and Wes, Annalise and her therapist, Bonnie and Frank, etc. Although nothing happened between Annalise and Wes, I did feel the sexual tension.
I got off topic there. Michaela fails to get back on Tegan’s good side after the events of the previous seasons. Everyone hates this girl, and I think she only half-deserves it.
Miller finds out about Asher and Bonnie’s relationship. He responds not well, which says a lot about his character and how Bonnie is so defensive about her past and as a woman. He claims he needed to know, but Bonnie only heard “slut”.
Speaking of men, the client of the week is a sexist dick. I could barely stand his ass alongside Tegan and Annalise, who are starting to like each other as co-workers. There’s something else going on with their boss too… something about “misconduct” in England.
I’m doing a good amount of swearing, and I apologize. Let’s continue onward.
Laurel, Oliver, and Connor didn’t get to do much in the episode besides the ethical exam. I’m surprised they all passed. Because you know… killing, lying, cover-ups, I could go on. But they did it somehow. It was an oral exam too so cheating is not in the cards.
However, Oliver does find out Frank is spying on Gabriel after seeing his flip phone. They do have a point… flip phones are sketchy these days.
Flashforward: Bonnie has a sister and shares a strong resemblance to her… so now I’m questioning if that’s even Bonnie who killed the unknown person in the snow. Michaela is eyeing her hard though after Connor makes it out to the dance floor, asking where Oliver is.
The shock was hard to register with everything else going on. Like is Gabriel’s ma, Bonnie’s sister? I hope everything connects somehow… but for now, I think we got a lot of moving plot points I’m not really invested in yet.
