Grey's Anatomy 15x04 "Momma Knows Best" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review.
The Season of Love has begun for Meredith. She’s going on dates, wearing “obvious” makeup, and ready to explore her options. Everyone’s reaction to Meredith’s new look is such a good bonus. They’re all so happy for her. Surprisingly, this is not the best part about the episode. At least not for me. The crossover portion with Station 19 is!!
Andy and Dean make a visit alongside Warren after saving a few people from a fire. Warren gets his hand burned and Miranda is not happy about it. Dean and Andy are forced to get a doctor’s checkup due to new Captain Sullivan’s policy. Dean is also interested in Maggie Pierce after his JJ breakup, unaware Maggie is sort of dating Jackson.
Speaking of Maggie, she is having a hard time with Jackson’s disappearance and the secret she’s holding about Teddy Altman. Maggie is also dealing with Natalie, the patient from the fire and her son Max. He is not handling his mother’s condition well, and his father isn’t helping matters either. The dad keeps hiding the truth from his son, unable to handle the truth himself.
Maggie is also asked out by Dean from Station 19 awkwardly right before Natalie’s condition worsens. Andy and Dean’s dynamic in the episode was an interesting one to unfold. I don’t think they’ve shared much screentime in Station 19’s first season, so exploring their friendship and work relationship was a good choice for the crossover.
Andy’s reactions to Dean’s attempts to asking Maggie out were one of the highlights of the crossover.
Alex Karev and Richard Webber continue to clash over Chief duties. While Alex thinks Jo is using sex (her hand on his ***) to get Chief approvals, he also has to deal with a patient who has no insurance to get surgery for his bleb. Yes, his bleb. I also enjoyed how Jo shouted she only wanted orgasms from Alex in front of Richard Webber. It was so priceless.
To get the patient covered for the surgery, Alex stabs the patient to make it look like he needs emergency surgery, which is covered by his insurance. Alex believes he was only doing the job to the best of his ability, but Webber scolds him for his actions. The patient asks if he will get fired for this, but Alex remarks he’s the chief so probably not.
Please continue this tension. I am loving it.
Amelia and Owen are dealing with Betty, who may have gotten high. Amelia gets called “hag” a couple times, and that’s enough for her to drag Betty to the hospital for a drug test. Then Owen’s mother comes to visit “not Owen” and talks to Amelia about being a mother rather than a friend. This leads to Amelia grounding Betty after learning she smoked weed.
They’re parents! What a joy that’s about to get rocked with Teddy’s secret.
Meredith is having a good time with John (Josh Radnor) on her blind date. They’re bonding over their passionate work, how dates end badly after saying “the one thing”, and misspelled text messages (they’re, there, and their are big deals). Then this John said something about single mothers being desperate not knowing Meredith herself is a single mother. She thanks him for a good time and walks away.
Close to the end of the episode, Max runs away from DeLuca and the hospital while Jo learns Link works at Grey-Sloan. They’re old friends based on their reactions. Link even knew her as Brooke, which reveals a lot about their past already.
Max’s fate will be revealed in Station 19’s episode. The link is here for my review on that episode.
