American Horror Story: Apocalypse 8x05 "Boy Wonder" Episode Review
Major spoilers are included in this episode review.
I’m loving American Horror Story and the world-building they’re doing with both Coven and Murder House. We haven’t actually got anything from Murder House besides Michael Langden, but everything else is so well-done. The introduction of the warlocks, the Alpha, and then Cordelia’s vision.
The episode picks up where we left off last week. Cordelia has a vision. End of the world. She believes Michael can save them from that fate and become the next Supreme based on how he resurrected both Madison and Queenie without much effort.
Madison’s one-liners are to die for. Her outfit was also amazing. She dresses for success.
I also love Myrtle Snow’s belittling of men and how they make terrible leaders in the human world. She’s not wrong though: men are not the best. Maybe that’s why the supernatural always leaned toward women. Then Myrtle brings up Mallory as a better candidate.
Coco is also re-introduced as a witch who can sense gluten in food. It fits her so well. I’m sure there’s more to the power because otherwise, they wouldn’t have bothered resurrecting her in the final battle against Michael.
The warlock Moore attempts to warn the Coven about Michael, but he is killed by Miriam, the future robot, before he can get to them. Michael meets with Miriam later and reveals he plans to destroy the Coven from the inside in order to fulfill his life’s purpose… “what he was born to do”.
Michael prepares to take the Seven Wonders. He passes every test with flying colors in a colorless silent cinema sequence, which was a bizarre approach. I wasn’t the biggest fan of how they approached the scene. Then the final test, going to the underworld and coming back, was where the challenge lied.
Cordelia requests Michael also bring back Misty Day with him, which enraged all the males in the room. They didn’t think it was fair, but Cordelia shut them down by declaring she is still Supreme and wants to see Michael perform the feat.
Michael agrees and retrieves Misty Day by making a deal in hell. Cordelia is happy to see Misty, but Misty wished she was left there. She senses an evil vibe from Michael and a taste of death, which Cordelia is aware of.
I loved this part: Cordelia never intended to make Michael Supreme, but she needed all her girls back to fight him and used the test of the Seven Wonders to examine how strong he is.
However, she does need to find a successor. Cordelia is fading like her mother did and believes she doesn’t have much time left. In the episode’s closing minutes after the amazing Stevie Nicks performance, Cordelia instructs Madison to gather information on Langden and to go back to the beginning… MURDER HOUSE!
OMG I’M SCREAMING!
