Season 3 Episode 7 served as our last-minute season finale. Due to the players wanting to play different characters for the next upcoming sessions, I decided to end the “Save Eri / Mas O Arc” early to give them that opportunity. As a result, this is the last time we will see WIFI, Gundam, and Killion for a while. Who knows when we’ll see Kai-Ku again, who had left near the end of season 2. However, the ending to the session was open-ended for the players to return with those characters someday.
I’m gradually structuring this campaign like My Hero Academia, where every character is treated like the main protagonist. So, our Avengers: Endgame is looking good.
In this session, the players have formed a new group—well, a different name from K-Krew—called New Gods Organization (NGO). Picking up where we left off, NGO had traveled from Kai-tick’s Data World to Bubby’s Data World in order to save that Eri from corrupting. They also wanted to wake her up in order to save Mas O from Ninth Hell, a job they accepted in exchange for gold pieces. Also, Gundam and Killion had respect for their former teacher.
The players had forgotten why they were doing this mission, so I need to work on exposition. It’s also just a DnD thing apparently that the players forget things most of the time. I’m going to work on better exposition delivery moving forward into season 4. This Dungeon Master is always finding ways to improve the game for his players.
Back to what happened during this session:
NGO arrived in Data Bubby’s world, only to run into more children. WIFI learned he can absorb these people into his Omni-Blade gauntlet, so he started doing that a lot. The children ended up telling them where Data Bubby was, but they needed to pass through the Bad Side Graveyard, which was smacked right in the middle.
NGO continued onward through this Bad Side Graveyard, encountering Mud Monsters, a Skull Dragon, and annoying Airbender kid named Prince Seto. Data Menos himself fought a Tornado and successfully “defeated it” with a NAT 20. Think of Avatar Roku fighting a volcano.
The Skull Dragon Fight was intense though, given that both WIFI and Menos ended up getting trapped inside each eye. That was pretty hilarious. Killion used his Golden Egg of Menos Chimera Transformation to defeat the Data Virus controlling the Skull Dragon.
After successfully passing through the Bad Side Graveyard, NGO arrived at Data Bubby’s Kingdom. They were invited to Princess Mokuba’s tea party, trying to convince her to let them see Data Bubby and their Eri. WIFI ended up absorbing her into his gauntlet, which caused the Bad Side to take over the kingdom immediately. They didn’t know Princess Mokuba’s presence was holding the Bad Side back.
Data Vin Menos Virus arrived on the scene, ready to rumble with the NGO and take over Eri’s mind. He wanted to reunite with the real Vin Menos in the real world, sensing his presence nearby. NGO realized the real Vin Menos played them when he requested to be their prisoner. HE KNEW ABOUT ERI’S CORRUPTION!
Of course, another battle commenced. Data Vin Menos and Killion—reactivating his Menos Chimera transformation—duked it out with hand-to-hand combat. Data Menos joined and used his BBC Broadsword plus Divine Smite to help turn the tide. Gundam fired bullets from afar, after he unjammed it from a NAT 1 start. WIFI used spirit carrots to attack from afar as well. Then things went dark when Data Vin Menos unleashed his Dark Spirit Sword and sliced Data Menos in half—NAT 20 Style!
Killion was devastated! The battle raged on. WIFI decided to enter the dark tower where Data Bubby and Eri were trapped, but a NAT 1 made him cut himself. In the end, WIFI channeled all the data people he captured and converted them into a Spirit Bomb (the Krillin version), blasting the tower into pieces and cutting Vin Menos off from his source of power (NAT 1 for him was timed perfectly). Killion smirked and attacked Data Vin Menos with everything he got. Gundam unjammed his gun in time for the killing blow. Data Vin Menos—and the virus trying to corrupt Eri—was completely eliminated!
It was time to log off, with all four Eris positioned at the tower. However, they needed Killion’s Menos Chimera power to fix the tower WIFI destroyed. This allowed Eri to fully awaken in the real world. NGO also awakened in the real world, only to learn they had been trapped inside that virtual world for 4 months! The time conversion worked differently similar to how dreams worked. Everyone else on the Wave Rider had to take up side-jobs to meet ends meet for all the ship’s essential needs.
Eri Menos thanked NGO for helping them and worked to open the gate to Ninth Hell, conversing with Mas O about his specific location down there. Mas O revealed he was in the deepest level with the Dragon Queen Tiamat. The players forgot about her.
Eri materialized Data Menos into the real world—using her Godly power—as a familiar to help NGO with this rescue mission. Killion was happy to see Data Menos again, having recently agreed to be his squire. Data Menos was flesh and blood now, a brand-new concept to him.
Together with Eri’s help, they opened the gate to Ninth Hell and charged ahead to save Mas O, former villain-turned hero teacher. The terrain was rough and unexpected, but they managed to not burn up due to Eri giving them immunity to Hell Fire. Killion rolled a NAT 1, trapping him behind in Ninth Hell, but Data Menos rolled a NAT 20 coming back for him, so everyone was able to return safely. Mas O—trapped in Ninth Hell since Season 1 Episode 5—was finally rescued in Season 3 episode 7.
The brothers—Data Menos and Mas O—had an emotional reunion. The players wanted to leave as a result, having no interest for this weird anime brother drama. This is where things started to transition. Data Menos—on Eri’s orders—planned to take up the vacant Hero Captain 2 position the real Menos hadn’t accepted, so he can get closer to Gilgamesh and his plans with the Dragon Queen Tiamat.
Mas O—from his time in Ninth Hell—learned Gilgamesh and Dragon Queen Tiamat were working together on something. Data Menos offered Killion the position of lieutenant, which he accepted right away. WIFI and Gundam were offered positions in a Black Ops Division that will be created specifically for them. They also accepted and wanted to call it ANBU. Data Menos agreed.
This meant Gundam, Killion, and WIFI would have to leave the Wave Rider. Mas O, on the other hand, decided to recruit other heroes for the upcoming RISE OF TIAMAT.
Mas O was given a closer look at Bubby Mike Gee’s prophecy from the previous campaign, learning that the Enforcers weren’t alone in saving the multiverse but leading a group of heroes against the Dragon Queen. Mas O planned to find these heroes and enlist their help to stop the end of the multiverse. As a result, Mas O immediately took over as Captain of the Wave Rider, easily defeating Cent Kelsier for the position through brute force.
Wishing each other luck, the two groups—Mas O’s group and Menos’ group—departed from each other. Thus, a new Phase in the story was set in motion. The Hero Captain Story is also open-ended, so the players can always return to that story whenever they’re ready to tackle that.
Thanks so much for reading our adventures so far, readers! I really appreciate it!
The next sessions will be dedicated to the new characters—in a way, a soft reboot—and a retake on the Quest for the Dragon Eggs. I’m going to be drawing more on Dragon Ball Z nonsense and the Infinity Stones for this next story arc. So, keep a look out for our new adventures. Even I don’t know what will happen next! Let’s keep it playing! See you all next time!
