Hey everyone! Welcome back to another D&D session recap. This was a fairly short session due to everyone’s schedules being off that week, so a one-shot adventure on the Wave Rider felt appropriate given what happened in the last session.
Previously on my D&D HERO Campaign, K-Krew and the rest of the crew on the Wave Rider barely managed to escape Cybertron and The Risen. During the jump back to the Temporal Zone though, the Wave Rider suffered heavy damage. Cent Kelsier explained this meant that they couldn’t jump without making the necessary repairs to the Jump Drive and fuel line.
WIFI, having gotten a NAT 20 the last time this problem came up, decided to check out the engine room. While he went to check that out, Killion and Gundam explored the other parts of the ship that needed repairs. Unexpectedly, they encountered Roshi webbed up in the ceiling. At this point, Gundam questioned why Roshi is always getting in these situations. They tried to break the webs down, but they found the webs were hard like steel. Gundam and Killion left him to find the one responsible for the attack. They called Cent Kelsier and informed him of the potential stowaway situation, as Roshi didn’t recognize his attacker.
K-Krew met up with each other in the bedroom corridors, where they discovered all the doors webbed. This kept the rest of the crew—Twenty the Goblin, Professor Stoner Head, Gaara, Lily Nighthill, etc.—trapped inside their rooms. Then, they spotted spiders hanging from the ceiling.
One spider ended up biting Killion in the neck, infecting him with a poison—a huge growing bump—that will transform him into “something else”. Killion was killed by Fireball, brought back to life using magic dragon egg yolk, bit by a vampire, and now spider infection. He begged for a power-up at this point, which was totally fair. Maybe sometime later down the line if—when it happens again.
The stowaway revealed themselves once K-Krew rolled low and caught themselves in the web. Gundam rolled a NAT 1 to rip the webs off with his bare hands, so he ended up getting stuck on the wall. He called himself, “Rui, the Spider-Demon”. Yes, the same Rui demon from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Rui jumped on the Wave Rider in-between their jump, seeing an opportunity to escape his loneliness.
Rui explained that he plans to take over the Wave Rider, wanting to convert K-Krew and the rest of their people into his own family. Killion refused to become his “brother” and rolled high to keep the infection from taking him over. He rolled high for the spider infection but low for escaping the webs that bound him. However, Killion did capture Rui with his Enkidu Chains. So, at one point, all three were captured in a weird stalemate.
WIFI escaped to Baxter’s lab room, needing a weapon to stop Rui from killing them all. He found a big gun that could be useful, but sadly it was a two-handed weapon. Remember, WIFI lost an arm in the previous session trying to harness the power of the Cybertron’s All-Spark.
Gundam tried to blast Rui into oblivion, but sadly realized his AC—Armor Class—was too high. This was not a weak opponent they were dealing with here. It’s been awhile—not really actually with Hisoka, Huevos Black, and The Risen in the previous sessions—since they fought powerful enemies. Gundam ended up tricking Rui into “joining the family” and took him the long way toward the lab where WIFI was. Killion was left behind—still trapped and infected—with Rui’s Web Clone. Rui and Gundam had a weird bonding moment in order to stall time. WIFI remembered Grey Matter, needing his help to craft a weapon to defeat Rui.
Grey Matter and WIFI also ran into Baxter and Roshi infected monsters—what Killion would become if he didn’t roll high—but he managed to take them down with some difficulty. After knocking them unconscious and curing their diseases, WIFI and Grey Matter went to work on the Omni-Blade, an old invention based on the design of the Data Drain bracelet. The unique metal material was the only thing that could hurt Rui.
Gundam also learned—during the weird bonding moment—that beheading Rui was the only effective way to kill him for good. Rui also slaughtered his previous “families” because they failed to live up to his unrealistic expectations. Gundam didn’t like hearing this. Around this time, they showed up to the lab room. Luckily, WIFI finished creating the Omni-Blade, which also worked as his new robotic arm.
Killion also finally escaped the webs and killed the Web Clone with a Fireball to the hallway, damaging the Wave Rider further with the flames. Killion ran the other way to meet up with the others.
WIFI and Rui clashed with each other once Rui discovered WIFI had the one weapon that could kill him. Rui also laughed, believing WIFI didn’t have what it took to master the Omni-Blade. WIFI didn’t deny this due to being a Cleric and not a Swordsman. He was having a hard time hitting, realizing he would need a NAT 20 in order to behead Rui.
Killion and Gundam provided WIFI with backup support, but they were losing hope when Rui NAT 20 broke WIFI’s Omni-Blade. Then Gundam activated the Almighty Battlizer and transferred its power to WIFI for the power-up he needed. This allowed WIFI access to the Almighty Cyber Mode, granting him advantage and access to the Omni-Blade’s Breath Technique.
“Breath of the Carrot!” WIFI cried out to the theme of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, mimicking that epic fight scene from episode 19. A triple advantage and a fierce power-up allowed the NAT 20 to appear! The epic moment was totally unreal. We were paying homage to the actual scene that ended Rui in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba!
WIFI—using the broken Omni-Blade—beheaded Rui and then he smashed the spider-demon’s body using his Spiritual Guardian. Killion’s infection went away as a result, which lead to Killion stomping on Rui’s head for what he did to him instead of letting him die peacefully. Rui’s reign on the Wave Rider came to a tragic end.
As a result of this one-shot adventure and the two-parter “War on Cybertron Arc”, WIFI decided he wanted out of K-Krew. He requested Cent Kelsier drop him off at the nearest destination, wanting to start his Pro Hero Career elsewhere. Then he changed his mind when Cent Kelsier explained the plan to fix the Wave Rider’s extensive damage to literal everything from electricity to the Jump Drive.
While the ship could make one more jump before breaking down again, Cent Kelsier suggested going to his home world “Vincinnati”—where all the Vin doppelgangers live. Since he stole the Wave Rider from them and there was a 100,000 Gold Piece Bounty on his head, Cent sees this as a great opportunity to kill two birds—ship issues and gold piece shortage—with one stone. WIFI wants the potential gold pieces as an upstart to his Pro Hero career. Everyone agreed to the plan, as they promised to break Cent Kelsier out after they turn him in to Vincinnati authorities.
With everyone in agreement with the plan, Cent Kelsier set a course for his home world and jumped the Wave Rider there. The session ended there. The adventures of K-Krew are always going in unexpected directions. I love it so much. The “War on Cybertron” to one-shot “Rui” and now we’re heading into the “Vincinnati Arc”.
Thanks for reading our adventures so far! I’ll see you all next time!
