Hello, everyone! Welcome to our D&D campaign’s season 3 premiere-type session! After passing the HERO License Exam, our players have returned to Cent Kelsier’s Wave Rider and have set a course for the Planet Cybertron, a War Forge Planet somewhere deep in the multiverse. In the meantime, K-Krew are chilling with Cent and Roshi Nighthill in the Captain’s Corridors. Roshi and WIFI meet for the first time, bonding over a game of poker. After they finished betting gold pieces with each other, Krypto announced over the intercom that they will be approaching Cybertron soon. However, there was an issue with the Wave Rider’s Jump Drive, the main engine that made traveling around the multiverse possible.
Baxter—the main engineer—had a difficult time fixing it, but newcomer WIFI came along with his NAT 20 skills and fixed the Jump Drive with ease. He was very impressed with himself, declaring himself an engineer. Since this problem was fixed easily, the ship continued to move its way to the Planet Cybertron, Gundam’s home world. Gundam had amnesia since the campaign started at HERO Academy, having no recollection of the place or its current location. He rolled a History Check and got a 16, allowing him to remember its location and the war that was happening there.
Once they were within range of Cybertron though, K-Krew learned that the Planet Cybertron was in Quarantine under Gilgamesh’s orders. K-Krew needed a distraction…
Gundam pretended to be an evil War Forge trying to reenter Cybertron since their Pro Hero Licenses were useless in Quarantine Zones. The rest of the crew—Killion, WIFI, and Cent specifically—pretended to be his prisoners. This led to the Dai Li Agents boarding the Wave Rider, unaware that they were heading into a trap. The Dai Li gained the upper hand at first when they realized Gundam was faking, leading to Krypto locking down the Wave Rider. Everyone present in the scene—K-Krew, Dai Li, Cent Kelsier, and Gaara—were trapped on the bridge. Gaara was hidden inside the room, which allowed him to sneak attack the Dai Li Agents—all three of them—in his Sand Coffin.
K-Krew disabled the lockdown and interrogated the Dai Li Agents, wanting to know if there were more of them coming. Before they answered, WIFI decided to board the Dai Li Ship anyway. Gundam and Killion followed. Everyone else on the Wave Rider stayed behind with the Dai Li Agents they captured.
Now onboard the Dai Li Ship, WIFI, Gundam, and Killion decided to jump the three Dai Li Agents stationed at the bridge near the cockpit. Gundam killed one instantly with a NAT 20 shot, while the other two went on alert. During the scuffle, another Dai Li was killed. The last one was taken captive, furious that K-Krew killed his friends.
WIFI punched him, demanding the Dai Li explain why Cybertron is under Quarantine while a war is raging outside. The Dai Li explained that Gilgamesh assigned them to cut off the planet for fear of potential genocide explosion due to ongoing civil war between War Forges. Gundam was surprised to hear this, remembering his encounter with Gundam, Model R during the HERO License Exam and how he was designed to hunt villains like him. Gundam’s character development was outstanding.
The Dai Li Agent eventually revealed the true reason for Cybertron’s Quarantine. Gilgamesh had sent his villain minions after the All-Spark, a legendary energy source and the life source of Cybertron, who was a sentient planet. K-Krew could only imagine what the King of Epic Heroes would want with the All-Spark’s limitless power. They decided they would take it first. Then, they forced the Dai Li Agent to take them to the Cyber Moon, a metallic sphere in the sky that orbited Cybertron like an actual moon. K-Krew informed Cent Kelsier, who decided to stay behind in case they ran into more trouble with the Dai Li Agents at the planet’s borderline.
K-Krew were only taken to Cyber Moon because getting close to Cybertron would be too dangerous, given the war and the other unknown dangers surrounding the planet. Besides, K-Krew thought it would be a good idea to scout on Cyber Moon first and asset the situation they were about to get into. The Dai Li Agent fled in his spaceship after he dropped K-Krew off. K-Krew was amazed at how futuristic Cyber Moon looked with their tall buildings inside the Moon’s exterior structure.
Then, they ran into a robot cleaner named Wall-E who didn’t recognize Gundam. Wall-E was also alerted to see non-War Forges like WIFI and Killion. WIFI used his tech skills to reprogram Wall-E, disabling his alert system and wiping the hard drive clean. This meant Wall-E thought K-Krew were his creators. K-Krew asked Wall-E where they could find a spaceship for travel over to Cybertron, and he directed them to Megatron’s Garage: a spaceship garage shop on the outskirts of town.
They also used him for an exposition dump on everything going on with Cybertron and the civil war. Wall-E explained pretty much everything they needed to know:
The civil war was between the Auto Bot Resistance Fighters and the Evil Decepticon Warriors, who were comprised of Gundam Models A-Z (except K and R) and other followers wanting to seize power for themselves. The Auto Bot Resistance have no Gundam Models on their side except Gundam Model K, who was believed dead for five weeks. Model R as well, but he vanished to take the HERO License Exam. Nobody had seen or heard from him since. Gilgamesh had sent his villain minions to assist the Evil Decepticons win the war and acquire the All-Spark.
Five weeks ago clicked for Gundam, Model K… it was when Gundam appeared on Bubby Island and enrolled in HERO Academy, where he met Killion and Kai-Ku back at the start of the campaign. Things were coming together for him. Gundam needed to win this war for his people and join with the resistance.
Gundam had to help his people survive the oncoming onslaught of Gilgamesh. Around this time, K-Krew encountered a half-human, half-robot being named Cyborg. He was a Veteran and Deserter of the war, having been forced to retire on the Cyber Moon for being too outdated. However, Cyborg was more than happy to help K-Krew travel to Cybertron if it meant he could be useful again. Cyborg escorted K-Krew—abandoning Wall-E—to his Astro Megaship (the same one from Power Rangers: In Space) and flew them to the Planet Cybertron. K-Krew also met the ship’s AI systems named GRID and DECA.
On the way to Planet Cybertron, K-Krew runs into a ship blockage led by Huevos Black, older brother of the deceased Lord Eggza and father of the deceased Lord Wit from the Undercover Internship SAGA. Huevos Black and K-Krew had a virtual chat.
Huevos Black—with his ten ships backing him up—demanded to know why they were heading toward Planet Cybertron, knowing full-well there shouldn’t be any newcomers. K-Krew were low-key scared, but Gundam explained that he was coming to join Huevos Black and the Decepticons. Huevos Black found Gundam intriguing, and he allowed K-Krew to follow them to a deserted area on Cybertron. K-Krew’s Megaship was surrounded by Huevos Black’s fleet. Gundam told everyone that if it came down to it, he’ll challenge Huevos Black one-on-one. Killion cast invisibility just in case, and WIFI hid on Gundam’s back. So, “one-on-one” will work in their favor.
When Gundam and Huevos Black met “one-on-one” on the deserted area—their unofficial battlefield, things were intense. K-Krew’s ship was surrounded, XerX-Eggza Chimeras descended, and Huevos Black claimed in an earlier session that he was even stronger than his “little brother Eggza”. Gundam, in turn, claimed he killed Gilgamesh already.
What a bold lie he told, and with a roll of 17, Huevos Black was having a hard time believing it. This made Huevos Black believe he could gain the All-Spark for himself. However, Huevos Black would need a War Forge Gundam Model to harness it for him. Huevos Black decided he would merge with Gundam and make him merely the suit, intending to be the host. Gundam refused, but Huevos Black challenged him to an Agni Kai. The winner would determine the loser’s fate. Gundam agreed to this honorable “one-on-one” and whipped out his guns. Killion was invisible and watched from afar. WIFI was helping with support magic on Gundam’s back. Even with all this, Huevos Black proved to be a challenging opponent—one of the strongest enemies they have ever faced!
Huevos Black used 1% of his power against Gundam’s Almighty Battlizer—the very first time he used it since Baxter fixed it for him—and the fight was pretty even. This was bad news for Gundam since Huevos Black was only using 1%, but all his attacks were now laced with kryptonite thanks to the Krypto’s influence. Killion, seeing Gundam struggle, revealed himself and cast Charmed Person on Huevos Black. The villain failed the saving throw, feeling influenced by Killion’s friendship. Killion asked his “friend” to drop his power down to 0.5% for him. Huevos Black reluctantly agreed, but he was also struggling to break free. He knew he was being charmed, but he was still having the upper hand against Gundam Almighty!
Gundam Almighty barraged Huevos Black with energy slashes and hit faster with WIFI adding support magic to Gundam Almighty’s attacks. Huevos Black was feeling pain for the first time in centuries. He didn’t know he could bleed… it made him wonder if Gundam Almighty actually killed Gilgamesh. Huevos Black also thought about his son and brother, how they had also fallen to this team and Menos’ team—the Enforcers. This was truly an epic battle accompanied by actual Agni Kai music from Avatar The Last Airbender.
Huevos Black broke free of Charmed Person and powered up to 50%, nearly killing Gundam. WIFI healed a lot of the damage Gundam sustained, so he wasn’t taken out of the fight easily. Huevos Black grew more reckless and powered to 100% Frieza-Eggza style only to roll a NAT 1 when he tried to attack. This revealed the weakness of Huevos Black’s bulky form. Killion saw an opportunity and shot a kryptonite sword from behind, hitting Huevos Black right in the head.
Gundam and the rest of K-Krew towered over Huevos Black, as he began to disintegrate similar to how Lord Eggza died at the end of the previous campaign. Huevos Black admitted defeat, understanding and acknowledging Gundam’s strength. Gundam used this opportunity to reveal he didn’t actually kill Gilgamesh, but he will be going after him next. Huevos Black wished him luck and perished, saying that he’ll be looking forward to seeing it alongside his brother and son in the hell. With that, Huevos Black died. K-Krew killed Huevos Black. The XerX-Eggza Chimeras dispersed wildly as did Huevos Black’s ship fleet, but then a strange spaceship arrived in the sky towering over a beaten K-Krew. Who had come for them now? This was a solid cliffhanger moment and how we ended the session.
What an explosive way to kickoff season 3 of our D&D HERO campaign. I’m excited to see where the “War on Cybertron Arc” goes from here, and how the players will handle the mysterious spaceship coming for them. Stay tuned for the next episode of Dungeons & Dragons, everyone! Thanks for reading!
