Tower of God Volume 1: “Zahard’s Princess” (Episodes 31 through 34) Webtoon Review

October 10, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Tower of God Volume 1: “Zahard’s Princess” (Episodes 31 through 34) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On September 1, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 1’s eighth story arc: “Zahard’s Princess”. This arc took a backseat on Baam and the other characters to give its attention on Anak and Androssi, the two Zahard Princesses and their background stories. There was also a weird focus on the icebreaker friend list homework and food that tied into this arc’s main story.

Tower of God Volume 1: “Position Test” (Episodes 28 through 30) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 31, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 1’s seventh story arc: “Position Test”. After the three-day period, the next test became school for all the remaining participants. Baam was also lucky his classes were delayed while he was comatose, otherwise he would’ve lost points for “tardiness”. Everyone is divided into five categories for the Position Test:

Tower of God Volume 1: “Rest” (Episodes 26 and 27) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 31, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 1’s sixth story arc: “Rest”. The two-episode arc centered around the Crown Game’s aftermath and the three-day rest period before starting up the next test.

Tower of God Volume 1: “Crown Game” (Episodes 14 through 25) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 31, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 1’s fifth story arc: “Crown Game”. This arc was the longest one yet, and the most fun with an introduction of a bonus game to give the participants a chance to climb the Tower faster by allowing the winner to immediately advance to the next floor.

Tower of God Volume 1: “Yu Han Sung’s Examination” (Episodes 11 through 13) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 30, 2020, I started and finished reading Tower of God Volume 1’s fourth story arc: “Yu Han Sung’s Examination”. This story arc started by resolving the conflict between Lero-Ro and a stubborn Regular who couldn’t accept that he failed the pretest before moving onto the next official test.

Tower of God Volume 1: “Lero-Ro’s Test” (Episodes 9 and 10) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 30, 2020, I started and finished reading Tower of God Volume 1’s third story arc: “Lero-Ro Test”. While the arc only had two episodes, it introduced a Ranker named Lero-Ro, his pretest for the passing teams assembled on the Tower’s second floor to take the next official test, and exposition that explained the world-building of the Tower—and the Irregulars’ existence—for Baam and the reader.

Tower of God Volume 1: “Evankhell’s Hell” (Episodes 5 through 8) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 30, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 1’s second story arc: “Evankhell’s Hell”. While the number of episodes may seem short for these arcs, the episode length is actually longer than usual for a Webtoon. The more I read this Webtoon, the more I’m understanding why people compare it to long-standing manga series One Piece.

Tower of God Volume 1: “Headon’s Floor” (Episodes 1 through 4) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 30, 2020, I started and finished reading Tower of God Volume 1’s first story arc: Headon’s Floor. I had been hearing many good things about this Webtoon series and the anime, so I decided to check this one out as a “warm-up” before I dove into Big Daddy One Piece manga next. Like our main protagonist Baam, let’s see if I can also make it up the Tower!

unOrdinary “Vigilante 3 Arc” (Episodes 196 through 199) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On September 24, 2020, unOrdinary concluded its “Vigilante 3 Arc”. The “Vigilante” arcs are usually short, but they add tons to the plot momentum regarding EMBER, vigilantes, and the ability enhancers. This is the first “Vigilante” arc without Remi though—putting aside the ending—so it was indeed odd to exclude her, but it makes sense because Blyke wanted to train without anyone knowing.

Haikyū!! To the Top Season 4 Part 1 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On October 1, 2020, I started watching Haikyū!! To the Top Season 4’s first 13 episodes and finished on October 2, 2020—at 2am. I stayed past my bedtime to make it—To the Top—for the newest episodes to come out—Season 4 Part 2 Hype! As an avid reader of the manga, I was quite excited to hit the “Tokyo Nationals Arc” of the series—especially with the manga having concluded earlier this year.

Haikyū!! Land vs Sky OVA Two-Parter Review: Episode 1 “Land vs Sky” + Episode 2 “The Path of the Ball”. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On September 30, 2020, I started and finished Haikyū!!s OVA Two-Parter Special. Released on January 2020, this OVA covered the volleyball matches played with Nekoma and their path toward Nationals. Ideally, you would want to watch this OVA after you finished season 3 because these matches came directly after the events of the season, so it’s chronological order.

Haikyū!! Karasuno High School vs Shiratorizawa Academy Season 3 Anime Review

Haikyū!! Karasuno High School vs Shiratorizawa Academy Season 3 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On September 29, 2020, I binge-watched all ten episodes of Haikyū!!’s third season—mostly to drown out the 2020 presidential debate. My mental health—alongside everyone else’s—was being attacked, so I needed to dive into something hopeful and entertaining to wash out the dumpster fire from my ears. Now that I said my two cents about why I binge-watched season 3, let’s dive into the season review.

Haikyū!! Season 2 Anime Review

Haikyū!! Season 2 Anime Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On September 17, 2020, I started Haikyū!!’s second season on Netflix and finished on September 28, 2020. For those who don’t know this about me, I’m not a sports fan in the slightest and have little to no knowledge of the real-life sports world. The only sports knowledge I would ideally have would be from All American (Football), One Tree Hill (basketball), and now volleyball from reading Haikyū!! manga and watching this anime.

Haikyū!! Season 1 Anime Review

Haikyū!! Season 1 Anime Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 28, 2020, I started watching the anime Haikyū!!—after I finished reading the manga’s 402 chapters—and finished the first season on September 16, 2020. To be honest, I’m not a huge sports fan. I had an on-and-off interest with sports in general—working MSU Concessions forced me to care out of sheer boredom during shifts—so I just assumed sports animes would make me feel the same way.

Haikyū!! “Final Arc” (Chapters 370 through 402) Manga Review

October 04, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Haikyū!! “Final Arc” (Chapters 370 through 402) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 27, 2020, I started reading Haikyū!!’s “Final Arc” and finished on August 28, 2020. Reading the last 32 chapters in this manga series had been an emotional rollercoaster ride, giving the reader immense payoffs on why we invested in the first place. The characters were given satisfying endings, and the buildup to such conclusions were well-earned and not rushed. Haikyuu!! also brought the story full-circle with Shoyo Hinata and Tobio Kageyama.

Haikyū!! “Tokyo Nationals Arc” (Chapters 207 through 369) Manga Review

Haikyuu!! “Tokyo Nationals Arc” (Chapters 207 through 369) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 18, 2020, I started reading Haikyū!!’s “Tokyo Nationals Arc” and finished on August 27, 2020. What an emotional nine days I spent on this arc. There were many loose ends being tied up and character payoffs that I could feel the end was near regardless of how the tournament turned out. No matter what happened—win or lose—this would be Karasuno’s third-years’ last official high school volleyball tournament. It was pretty intense knowing that fact.

Haikyuu!! “Spring High Preliminary Arc” (Chapters 97 through 206) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 15, 2020, I started reading Haikyū!!’s “Spring High Preliminary Arc” and finished on August 18, 2020. Reading 109 chapters—experiencing the intense grind for Nationals—in three days… I have to say, not too shabby for someone trying to take their time on this manga series. Now having reached this manga’s halfway point (there are 402 chapters in this series), I must also say I didn’t expect to enjoy Haikyū!! to such an extent.

Haikyū!! “Tokyo Expedition Arc” (Chapters 72 through 96) Manga Review

October 03, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Haikyuu!! “Tokyo Expedition Arc” (Chapters 72 through 96) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 14, 2020, I started reading Haikyū!!’s “Interhigh Arc” and finished on August 15, 2020. While the previous arc—“Interhigh Arc”—was mostly action-driven with high stakes attached, this arc took a step back to give the Karasuno Team time to reflect and study for their final tests. Yes, school became a factor in this arc’s first part to determine if the players—particularly the first-year players—were allowed to attend a training camp in Tokyo with all the other teams they faced against for practice matches.

On August 12, 2020, I started reading Haikyū!!’s “Interhigh Arc” and finished on August 14, 2020. Reading Haikyū!!—despite my dwindling interest in volleyball—had been so much fun. After finishing this arc, I have come to understand why this manga is really popular. I’m really excited to watch the anime series—the first two seasons out on Netflix—once I’m done reading all 402 chapters.
