Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 38 "The Blazing Blue Friendship" Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
I didn’t enjoy the “Matt-centric” episode compared to last week’s. The animation was wonky, there was picture play-by-play, and the Matt development wasn’t as strong. It wasn’t even visually appeasing to watch. There was also no “MetalGarurumon” either. WHY DOES NOBODY GET MEGA AND TAI GETS TWO? I don’t understand.
The episode was centered around Gabumon getting kidnapped by a Mephismon, who wanted to sacrifice him and other Digimon to revive Millenniumon. The reboot is on it with the plot-driven task, but the character development needs some support too. The flashbacks to Matt and Gabumon’s first meeting didn’t add much because it played out like Tai and Agumon’s first meeting from the Pilot. I was not really impressed with this episode. Matt is #2, but the series doesn’t have to keep reminding us of that fact.
Joe and Gomamon played a hilarious supporting role in this episode though, which I did enjoy so much. Joe’s exposition from his textbook was hilarious. Joe even performed the Shikamaru pose. How Joe’s textbook chant stopped all the evil Digimon reminded me of “Bakumon lose your power” chant, which was also hilariously amazing. I need more next week with the restaurant filler episode coming up.
Gabumon being trapped like Jesus did inspire a lot of memes though, so that’s pretty cool. Of course, everyone met up by the end too. All 8 DigiDestined are officially back together. These kids need to stop getting separated now, so we can get a move on the Mega-centric episodes for everyone. Tai has two Megas and everyone else has zero. It infuritates me so much. It also excites me because I’m a Tai-Agumon simp. Damn it!
