Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint Chapter 6: “The Time of Judgment” (episodes 22 through 26) Webnovel Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webnovel Review. Please read with caution.
On November 24, 2020 to December 22, 2020, I read Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint chapter 6 parts 1 through 5. Chapter 6 followed the aftermath of Dokja defeating The Warden of the Dark and completing the sub scenario. Dokja refused to kill the monster off though despite the huge reward attached. This allowed Myeongoh Han to step in and finish off The Warden of the Dark, claiming Dokja was a fool for not believing in killing in this type of new world. However, this was where things became twisted.
Myeongoh Han quickly discovered that there was a horrific curse attached to killing The Warden of the Dark, and that was why Dokja didn’t kill it. Myeongoh Han was officially cursed, becoming a target of the Demon King’s hatred. As a result, Han suffered through his greatest nightmare. Dokja simply grinned, and asked the others if they were ready to open the treasure.
They earned some items from the chest, ate some cooked rat meat, and Sangah questioned how Dokja knows all about this new world they’re living in. In the end, Sangah assumed Dokja’s excessive reading of fantasy Webnovel series was the key to his knowledge. She wasn’t technically wrong, but they quickly moved on to her knowledge of foreign languages being useful in this new world as well.
Dokja also managed to combine items with the treasure chest, creating a brand-new Constellation Artifact called Unbreakable Faith. Reading Dokja pull a new powerful weapon gave me Genshin Impact vibes on a meta level. The joy was snatched away though when Gilyeong sensed another insect, which caused him to zone out and bleed from his nose. Chapter 6 Part 1—Episode 22—ended on an intense cliffhanger, which effectively kicked off the chapter with high-stakes tension.
Episode 23—Chapter 6 Part 2—showed Dokja assessing the situation and trying to stop Gilyeong from summoning the Monarch Insect. Luckily, Gilyeong managed to stop his skill before burying everyone alive. Dokja told Gilyeong not to use his skill again unless he says so, which is lowkey controlling, but they’re in a life-or-death situation so maybe a little control is okay?
Since Gilyeong is unable to properly use his skill to guide them out of the cave, Sangah revealed she had a skill similar to Gilyeong’s that could guide them out using a thread. Dokja, along with the rest of us readers, are still curious about the Constellations Sangah signed on with. This mystery is something that will likely not be disclosed for some time, especially with Dokja’s character profile skill not working on Sangah.
Everyone meets up with each other at this point, and they all love the delicious chicken. Huiwon Jeong eating the chicken with such glee was fun to read. However, the reunion and return to Geumho Station is met with pure desperation. The people there are freaking over the 100 coins survival fee, and asking others for coins to spare them from death. Inho Cheon worsens the situation with his incite skill, manipulating the people to turn on Dokja for having the most coins.
Dokja Kim processes the situation, realizing he’ll lose 2,000 coins if he helps the people, and if he doesn’t, he’ll be the villain. However, Dokja Kim also questions if these people deserve his actual help and reflects on the theme of the first scenario: original sin. Dokja also acknowledges the hypocrisy of these people for not even taking accountability for killing others in the first scenario, which does remind me of the Trump Supporters attacking the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. No unity without accountability.
As a result, Inho Cheon and the growing mob attack Dokja for his coins when he refuses to hand them over. Dokja, in response, cuts one of the enemies’ arms and declares them pathetic for putting all the blame on him for the mess they made. Chapter 6 Part 2 ended on such an intense cliffhanger.
Episode 24—Chapter 6 Part 3—picked up on that cliffhanger, with Dokja telling the people off about Inho Cheon killing others for power during patrols. The ones who didn’t come back weren’t killed by monsters; they were killed by Inho Cheon and his gang. Inho exposed himself when he told the people that killing Dokja will grant them coins. How could Inho Cheon possibly know that?
The truth caused everyone to turn on each other. Then Huiwon Jeong delivered a sword in the mouth to her attempted rapist. Huiwon Jeong awakened her demonic power and slaughtered many people in this violent action sequence. I added Attack on Titan OST to my reading experience, which heightened the graphic violence displayed by Huiwon Jeong. The art and dark red color scheme enhanced the gore and slaughter.
The name of the chapter, Time of Judgment, is also the name of Huiwon Jeong’s personal skill. She’s easily becoming one of my favorite characters in the Webnovel.
“It’s almost hard to believe that we were sharing food and joking around just moments ago” is how the slaughter scene ended. Then the collecting of the survival fee is what killed everyone who couldn’t afford to pay, leaving only Dokja and his team, in addition to some other survivors, alive by the end of this part.
After all, the main scenario had only just begun.
Episode 25—Chapter 6 Part 4—covered the aftermath of the Geumho Station incident. The survivors decided to leave Geumho Station and separate from the main group. Huiwon Jeong was also officially the newest member of the group, which was already a given like Dokja said. She effortlessly became a part of the gang, and I’m excited to see what the story does with Huiwon Jeong next.
She also gifted everyone what she deemed was a fair share for all the coins she earned from slaughtering people. I liked how Dokja admitted he wouldn’t have done the same, but Huiwon didn’t care and gave him coins anyway. I do like the character dynamic unfolding between Dokja and Huiwon.
Myeongoh Han survived the Geumho Station incident as well, but he disappeared without a trace afterward. I’m sure he’ll come back to the main story someday, but the curse is not going to give him a good time.
Moving along here, Dokja had started using the coins to upgrade his stats for the next destination. Dokja wants to increase his earnings by increasing Bihyeong’s channel and drawing more constellations to watch. Dokja is leading the team to the perfect destination for that goal, Chungmuro Station. After passing a few stations though, Dokja advised everyone to rest in case they aren’t able to upon arrival.
Monsters aren’t the only things we need to watch out for in this world.
During the break, everyone looked around for supplies and bathroom break. Dokja, on the other hand, used this opportunity of rest to be productive. Honestly, I can relate to that kind of behavior. Dokja headed outside, where there was poisonous fog, to go on a pilgrimage for the Great Monk Statue of Samyeong. Of course, Dokja was lying when he told the others so shamelessly where he went.
Dokja destroyed an idol of a constellation, the Great Monk Statue of Samyeong, for a skill in order to enter the Chungmuro Station. Reading Dokja Kim lie to the others is interesting because he is doing it for their own good, but he’s also being very controlling in order to keep them alive. Dokja is also effortlessly lying, showing no shame for saying he prayed in front of the statue and the items just fell out of the sky. I was also impressed though like the other constellations.
Huiwon Jeong looked so annoyed like she can see through Dokja’s bullshit.
Chapter 6 Part 4’s ending also established the new sub-scenario.
The sub-scenario begins in Chapter 6 Part 5—episode 26—which is to escape an illusory prison within the time limit. The time limit is one hour. Reward is 300 coins. The penalty is “???”. Dokja almost fell into the illusory prison, but he used his Fourth Wall powers to negate the effects. In other words, he broke the illusory prison, a zone that triggers your trauma to drive you insane.
Hyeonseong Lee was having army flashbacks, Huiwon Jeong was fighting off “sons of bitches”, Gilyeong kept saying “I’m sorry, mom”, and Sangah was left unaffected by the illusory prison due to the Praying Beads of the Great Monk Samyeong item.
With Sangah covering him, Dokja plans to destroy the zone. The facial expression of Sangah nodding and looking nervous added to the suspense into the scene. Clearing this sub-scenario was the reason Dokja destroyed the statue. Dokja used a dispel evil skill to destroy the illusory prison, freeing everyone from its effects. However, Huiwon Jeong activated Demon Slaying and went berserk. Dokja knocked her out fast in order to deal with the Specter Ghosts.
The moment between Dokja and Gilyeong reminded me of how I feel about children and protecting the innocent. Gilyeong was most likely going through the most traumatic experience, so Dokja was doing everything he could to preserve it. Gilyeong hugging Dokja after the pat on the head was heartwarming.
The last pages of Chapter 6 Part 5 were also pretty amazing with Jihye Lee, the sole survivor of Taepung Girls’ High School, appearing because she is a main character from Dokja’s favorite Webnovel. She’s going to be important later for some Naval Battle that will go down later. The meeting also closed out the main scenario, and chapter 6. I’m so blown away by this chapter as a whole.
I’m so in love with reading Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. I’m learning so much about the real world and myself through this Webnovel. Thanks for all your support so far, everyone. I’ll see you all later when chapter 7 concludes!
Take Care,
