Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 5 “Holy Digimon” Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode. Please read with caution.
After four episodes of reliving our Digimon childhood, episode 5 “Holy Digimon” was dedicated to giving us—the audience—some exposition on the Digital World, the Holy Digimon, and the DigiDestined’s Digimon’s background. They have actual backgrounds. This was also the episode where Tentomon finally digivolved into Kabuterimon. At this point, it appears like all the Digimon will have their own unique Digivolution sequences. Agumon’s Digivolution sequence is my favorite sequence so far.
I really enjoyed the exposition in this episode, giving us clues that the DigiDestined’s Digimon may in fact be reincarnations of the Holy Digimon’s strongest warriors. So, this Reboot may be leaning more toward Digimon Frontier’s story lore regarding the Holy Digimon—Seraphimon, Ophanimon, and Cherubimon—and making TK and Kari more significant characters given their connection to Celestial Digimon. Digimon Adventure Reboot is taking the time to set-up the story, which is a refreshing change of pace from the original series but also keeping in tone with its predecessor.
For some reason, the animation was much better in this episode compared to the previous one. Honestly, it might be coronavirus-related production issues. I’m also getting really used to the new music. Switching out the nostalgic music for the new OST and committing to it was a much-needed creative decision. I’ll never stop saying this part.
While no new DigiDestined child had met up with Tai, Sora, or Izzy in this episode, Mimi and Palmon were seen at the end as a cliffhanger moment. So, Mimi will be joining the group in episode 6 soon enough. Overall, keep the new Digimon episodes coming! I’m really interested to see where the story goes next, given that Devimon and Ogremon are starting to make moves against our favorite heroes. Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you all in the Digital World next week!
