unOrdinary “Capture Arc” (Episode 119 through Episode 131) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
unOrdinary was preparing us for its season one endgame. This arc centered around a group of mid-tier students kidnapping a powerless Seraphina and punishing her for what she had done to them via the social hierarchy. Arlo and Elaine lead the search for Seraphina while John conducted his own solo search as the school vigilante, donning the black mask and attacking many students—including Isen—in order to copy their abilities.
The “Capture Arc” took their sweet time exploring the mid-tier students and their displeasure about the social hierarchy. Arlo and the other high-tiers didn’t pay much attention to them, allowing them to create their own hierarchy within the hierarchy when it came to the low-tier students. They wanted to take out their frustrations on Seraphina for being treated like trash by the high-tiers.
Since I read the “Capture Arc” on May 31, 2020, the storyline really connected me to what was happening with the protests and the riots challenging the real-world social hierarchy. There were people who wanted to keep order while others fought for change.
John might also be on the verge of no return. During this arc, John was being drawn and portrayed like a real bully. He attacked others without mercy and allied himself with Cecile, the former head of the school newspaper. The search for Seraphina officially broke him. At this point, John’s secret won’t stay hidden for too long.
Overall, I’m ready for the final arc of the first season. The “Joker Arc” already sounds very sinister and epic. unOrdinary had come when I needed to read it most. John wasn’t acting like the main protagonist anymore… He was acting like a villain.
