My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising Anime Movie Review
Major Spoilers are included in this anime movie review. Please read with caution.
I watched the latest this movie, My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising, on February 27, 2020. I had recently watched the first movie prior to my viewing of this one, and now I feel like saying something: this second movie blew the first movie out of the water. This second movie found a way to entertain new viewers, offer character payoffs for long-time fans, and it was exciting without needing to connect to the main anime series. The events of this movie take place between season four and season five or sometime during season five. Somewhere around there. It’s honestly not that important right now. Enjoy action!
Heroes Rising is about the U.A. Students of 1-A going to Nabu Island to act as temp heroes without adult supervision for a whole month. The “without supervision” part raises a red flag, but it did bring about an amazing setting and different character dynamics. They’re all given a chance to shine in this movie, and I know that’s not an easy thing to pull off.
Everyone was pushed to their limits in this movie. The action was intense and well-executed throughout the movie. This movie was action-packed and could’ve easily overstuffed itself, but the entire thing was balanced and fun.
The two supporting characters in the movie are Mahoro and Katsuma. They were used to reinforce what it means to be a hero. It framed that question through Deku and Bakugo’s different brands of heroism and their relationship overall. Heroes Rising is mainly focused on them, but the movie put in the work to include everyone else when it came to fighting villains.
The four villains in this movie are one-dimensional, but they make up for the bland with action! They don’t care about explaining themselves and simply fight for their goals. The animation is beautiful in their fight scenes. Of course, the score is classic especially when they played Might+U during the climatic fight. I enjoyed that a lot.
Overall, the action fight scenes and team ups between students were the strongest aspects of the movie. I had a good time and found myself being emotional through beginning and end. PLUS ULTRA!
