Genshin Impact “Chapter 8: Final Clue” (Part 1 + Part 2) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On October 21, 2020, I started and finished Genshin Impact Webtoon’s Chapter 8: Final Clue Parts 1 and 2. The story was beginning to feel messy and convoluted again, but at least we learned why Diluc quit the Ordo Favonius—the famous knight order. This was a good payoff and nice context if you’re a Diluc simp like myself. As of October 21, 2020, I have not pulled Diluc in the video game (yet), but I’m hoping to have him at some point if the Genshin Impact Gods have mercy.
Anyway, I enjoyed learning Diluc’s tragic background and why he quit the Ordo Favonius. Apparently, Ordo Favonius refused to acknowledge Diluc’s father as the hero who saved everyone because it’ll make the knights look bad. Diluc took offense when they called his father a “mere businessman” and quit out of disgust.
Amber—in the flashback—happened to hear all this go down as a kid because she was hiding in the closet to scare her grandpa. So, this incident is connected to the Black Fire Incident in present day, and there are other missions happening too in order to avoid disrupting some festival. Again, the plot got convoluted and they only have three days to get the job done before some important people show up and ruin everything.
The artwork was consistently gorgeous in this chapter, so please forgive me for suspending my displeasure for the sake of simple enjoyment.
This chapter also didn’t follow up on the cliffhanger regarding how the power Diluc’s father used backfired, so that was super annoying. Amber and Collei are teaming up for the mission they’re about to embark on though, so hopefully the next chapter or two goes back to focusing on them. They have a clear dynamic that could be further explored, if the story does decide to make them the main protagonists. The lack of clarity for a main protagonist is still an ongoing issue.
Overall, Genshin Impact has some great characters, but the writer is heavily focusing on the story—the plot delivery—more than the great characters like 99% of the time. I’m going to keep it reading, but this is something I will keep noting in my reviews if this issue keeps coming back up. Thanks for reading this Webtoon chapter review, everyone! Let’s keep it reading, Genshin Impact players!
