Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train: “Prologue” (Episodes 111 and 112) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 9, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train’s first story arc: “Prologue”. One month had passed since the events of The Workshop Battle, with Khun and Leesoo chatting over the phone to catch up with each other. There was needed set-up concerning the teams with different missions, and the primary mission to ride the Hell Train in one year’s time. Even though everyone had just reunited, it was time to separate and get stronger.
Wangnan’s Team Sweet and Sour made the decision to split from Baam’s original team, so they don’t have to rely on his strength to retrieve Hell tickets. To board the Hell Train, every person will have to steal their own ticket. They have one year to get strong!
Ja Wangnan blamed himself for Horyang’s current condition and vowed to get stronger—to not be the same failure he was back on the 20th Floor. What amazing character development. I can’t wait to learn more about his backstory.
Khun is also going to join Wangnan’s team—separating from Baam—to be their official leader. He also wants to make sure Baam doesn’t find out that he’s going after Rachel with his own special team as well. Please stop keeping secrets, Khun. I know your reasons are noble, but this doesn’t have to be the Tower of Betrayal. You too, Wangnan!
Beta also joined Khun’s secret “kill Rachel” team alongside Novick, Edin Dan, Ran, and Xia Xia because he owed Horyang—who he considered a brother because of all the experiments done on them. Tower of God maneuvers all the characters into teams quite well despite there being so many of them. The story does get complicated at times as a result, but it’s also hard to stop reading too. I’m looking forward to this specific team killing Rachel.
Speaking of Rachel, her team is making progress on whatever they’re doing to Emile while also planning to board the Hell Train too in one year’s time. All the pieces are starting to come together for the next arc.
Baam’s new character design—which is reminisce of his old one—was beautifully framed through Yihwa’s perspective. Since Yihwa knew Baam as Viole, she was having a hard time adjusting to his innocent face and short hair, but she vowed to follow him up the Tower, nonetheless. Yihwa and Androssi are seriously crushing hard on Baam, and it’s so darn cute that Baam doesn’t give them the time of day.
I do appreciate how Baam’s changes in appearance throughout the series is somehow connected to both his character development and the story. I can’t believe I started reading Tower of God and initially thought he was too bland. To be fair, Baam was a bland character at the beginning, but he grew over time.
Overall, Tower of God has gotten much better. I’m excited to see where the story goes next with The Hell Train, Rachel’s involvement, and Hwa Ryun’s motives. There’s more stuff I’m excited about, but those are the ones most shrouded in mystery. Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
