Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train: “New Power” (Episodes 260 through 263) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 21, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2: The Hell Train’s eleventh story arc: “New Power”. The short arc gave us a short break to organize everyone’s next move regarding the Hidden Floor, and to reestablish motives for all the characters going into the “Hidden Floor” arc.
Baam, Androssi, and Rachel were given a pseudo-love triangle situation, where Baam offered Rachel a fair chance—as enemies—to win the second Thorn fragment from him. Androssi was jealous of Rachel was coming along with them to the Hidden Floor.
Rachel and Androssi had a one-on-one talk, where the two women admitted they were jealous of each other for different reasons. Androssi was jealous of Baam’s feelings for Rachel while Rachel was jealous of Androssi’s Princess status, power, and natural beauty—things she wants to become “the heroine of the story”. The two of them hashing out their differences was a long time coming. A Leader of the Ten Great Families also secretly gifted Rachel with a mysterious “new power”—something Androssi and Hockney noticed in this arc.
Wangnan also revealed his backstory to Karaka when he discovered Karaka had the same Zahard ring as him—they’re brothers, but they don’t know yet!
The arc ended on a cliffhanger leading into the next arc, with Karaka and Wangnan’s conversation being interrupted by Team Baam’s arrival. Everyone converged in front of the doorway to the Hidden Floor, where Rak—he’s alive!—is waiting for his turtles.
The mystery behind Rak’s arrival on the Hidden Floor will be a good one and most likely a hilarious story too. Rak had been snubbed too often throughout this series, so hopefully his return is given ample screen time.
I’m curious to see how everything will work out in the next arc, with Rak’s return to the main story, Rachel’s new power, and Wangnan’s connection to Karaka being fleshed out and explored. Also, Baam was also given another power-up that was similar to Hell Joe’s from the previous arc.
Baam’s power ups—how he’s getting them anyway—would usually annoy me if this were anyone else, but Baam makes it okay for some reason. To put it simply, sometimes it feels like he doesn’t earn his power ups. I honestly lost track of how powerful he is at this point, but there are stronger people than him out there like Urek Mazino, so it’s not like Baam is the most powerful character in the story right now. The characters in the story want him to be the strongest, but he strangely isn’t there yet.
Tower of God is an amazing Webtoon series. The climb these last three weeks—August 30, 2020 to September 21, 2020—have been tiring but also super satisfying. Week 4 going into the Hidden Floor will be another great experience. I’m grateful that I chose this Webtoon to be my “warm-up” for Big Daddy One Piece manga. The reading experience is also a learning experience. Like Baam and every other likeable anime protagonist, I’m always striving to improve and do my best! BELIEVE IT!
