Tower of God Volume 3: “Transformation” (Episodes 30 through 32) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On October 4, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 3’s ninth story arc: “Transformation”. The chaos and action sequences in this arc went nicely with each other, but the story was beginning to show more obvious convolutedness.
What do I mean by obvious convolutedness? Please allow me to explain.
The intentional chaos could be misconstrued as unintentional chaos for certain Webtoon readers who are wondering why they have become invested in a storyline about canine people and a war on a wall of peaceful coexistence. The way I see it is… if Baam cares, I care. That’s why we’re wrapped up in this storyline.
The arc “Transformation” went DBZ and focused on transformations. Baam literally started screaming as he tested the new stages of his new power. There were strong DBZ vibes during this arc. Baam was able to face off against Gado and rip a leg off—the main source of Gado’s power and canine transformation. The fight was over after this, with Zon—a canine person—stepping in and exploiting Gado’s leg weakness.
Side-note: I played The God of High School’s latest OST called Young Tiger. I would highly recommend playing OST music while reading certain Webtoon fight scenes. The experience and immersion were more fun for me this way—maybe it will for you too.
Baylord Yama also completed his transformation during this arc. The beauty was unreal, and his character became even more amazing. The flashback in this arc was effective in showing us how he achieved the complete transformation and how it represented how different he was from his younger brother Doom. Baylord Yama trained to protect the canine people while Doom trained the canine people to protect him and his two brothers—the “true” canine people.
Evankhell and Baylord Yama were also a great combo in teamwork and the artwork, with the gorgeous intricate flames working great with Yama’s new transformation. I was surprised the Elder FUG—Khel Hellam—was able to handle them both. The cliffhanger regarding The Wall of Peaceful Coexistence and the chaotic war was effective, but the plot jumped through a few unnecessary hoops to get there.
Tower of God was action-drive in this arc, and that was a great thing! Baam also gained permission from Evankhell to use the Thorn—the training to not use the Thorn was suspended due to the dire circumstances. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next. Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
