Tower of God Volume 3: “The Wall of Peaceful Coexistence” (Episodes 33 through 37) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On October 5, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 3’s tenth story arc: “The Wall of Peaceful Coexistence”. This arc resolved plot threads regarding Deng Deng, Louie, and Baam while setting everything else in place for the war happening at The Wall of Peaceful Coexistence, where Baylord Yama was transported to by Khel Hellam. I was having a great time with this arc and the characters—especially Baylord Yama.
My interest in the Webtoon was gradually burning out, but seeing how the story was shifting into this growing war and resolving storylines that needed to end helped reignite my passion. How the story addressed Baam’s guilt and his failing to save Deng Deng showed how much Baam had changed over the course of this series. Baam continues to evolve and change for the better.
Side-note: Rak keeps the huge spear, which is great! He deserves it.
Baam even started questioning his own resolve—believing he didn’t want to save him as much as he thought he did through a subconscious guilt trip—but Louie told him Baam did “save” Deng Deng when he offered the boy his hand. Deng Deng had accepted his death, having left Louie a message about it, but Louie did tell Baam to save everyone else. I liked how SIU handled the resolution of the story, and Baam’s role in it.
Baylord Yama encountered a new villain—Lo Po Bia Yasratcha, a feline person—at The Wall of Peaceful Coexistence. Yasratcha had the ability to mind control canine people for some reason, so he managed to make Yama fight himself to near death and take hold of other canine people when the whole Cage arrived to save him. I loved how much Yama cared about the canine people and how alone he felt in trying to protect them, which contrasted well with them all coming to save their “real king”.
Jordan is also a super fanboy loyalist, and that’s quite admirable. Baylord Doom is also free of the spell keeping him bound to Khel Hellam, thanks to Baam. Khel Hellam’s ability to see Destiny was also challenged by Baam throughout this arc, who was beginning to see Baam as someone who can create miracles and alter other’s destinies—like most other anime protagonists.
The artwork continued to astound me throughout this arc—particularly Khel Hellam’s bull shinsu. The intricate details and the mixture of flames and purple shinsu mashed and blended very well during the action sequences. Honestly, SIU should become that artist who sells these beautifully drawn scenes—like portraits or abstract pieces—in museums. I’d pay good money for the pages he puts out in this Webtoon and put it up all over my walls.
Khun, Rak, Leesoo, and Hatsu fell in the background during these last few arcs, so I’m hoping they receive some screen time with this upcoming arc. Also, Kallavan returned in this arc—being on the other side of The Wall of Peaceful Coexistence. He had been demoted and has one hand tied behind his back as punishment for the events that occurred at The Last Station. Oh yeah… all the pieces are starting to come together!
The Wall of Peaceful Coexistence harboring powerful warriors is the prime reason for Zahard’s Army’s invasion. FUG and the Ten Great Families want pure chaos from this reignited war. Reading about Tower of God’s war during this time—October 5, 2020 and the events surrounding President Trump’s COVID-19 situation at time of writing—made me feel uncomfortable to be quite honest.
Overall, Tower of God is back on track with this war brewing at The Wall of Peaceful Coexistence. I’m excited to see how everything will play out with Baam having so many new Ranker allies—Yama, Doom, Paul, Evankhell, Karaka, etc.—and his usual companions helping him with his greatest challenge yet. Defeat Kallavan and save his master!
Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower! I’m officially halfway to catching up and reaching the highest point. Thank you, SIU, for helping me get addicted to your story. It’s been a great honor so far.
