Tower of God Volume 3: “Stealing the Fang” (Episodes 10 through 16) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 29, 2020, I started Tower of God Volume 3’s third story arc: “Stealing the Fang” and finished on September 30, 2020. The contest—Canine Tooth Festival—officially begun, with Khun and Deng Deng getting a head start on the fang. However, old-time characters returned—how the last arc ended—to stop Khun and Deng Deng from leaving with the fang. I didn’t expect the characters who helped Rachel betray Khun back during early Volume 2 to make a comeback with FUG.
Baam finished his encounter with Akryung and meets another Ranker named Jordan, who strangely bond over how strong they are. Akryung and Baam’s fight was drawn magnificently—purple and blue color scheme clashed beautifully together—and ended on an ominous note regarding how Baam still needs to keep getting stronger to defeat Zahard.
Jordan, on the other hand, is a loyalist to Baylord Yama and found betraying him laughable when Baam brought it up. Jordan is also number 8 in Yama’s gang, so his power is pretty high up there. I think Baam and Jordan’s bond will be a masterpiece once it flourishes to fruition. By the end of this arc, they’ve teamed up to wake Baylord Yama before a coup in the Cage—the Canine world—officially kicks off.
Meanwhile, Khun “died” against Yama’s younger brother Paul. This seems to be recurring joke now. Rak found him again—like last time—but now Yeon flames burst out of Khun to bring him back to life. That was a beautiful resurrection—the artwork is simply stunning. Also, Khun might be a phoenix.
The mystery of Deng Deng also deepened in this arc beyond wanting to use him as a slave dog in the arena. Apparently, he’s something called “The Heart” and second-in-command of Yama’s gang. Gado isn’t Deng Deng’s biological father. However, Gado did seem like a loving father—blood related or not—who cared about his son’s well-being.
Having this information leaked out to certain members of Yama’s gang made Gado—one of Yama’s most loyal—betray Yama and team up with his brother Paul. There was also more exposition added in this arc about the canine people being exiled and forced to grow up outside the Cage, making the descendants want revenge. Tower of God is back to owning that nickname—Tower of Betrayal.
Baylord Yama and Madorako—a high Ranker working with Karaka—were revealed to have not been one-hundred percent honest about Deng Deng and Yama’s other brother sleeping underneath the Cage. Karaka is also beginning to show a humorous side during this arc—so that’s something for his character development.
This storyline is borrowing heavily from Christian lore and replacing celestials with canine people. What a brilliant twist. The descendants of the canine people who were exiled want to free that brother and reclaim a home that has been denied to them. Team Baam had no idea what they walked into when they decided to play this game with Baylord Yama.
Tower of God is beginning to ramp up the action, with two brothers currently asleep and two groups racing to wake them up. Baam and Jordan ended the arc with Baam on the way to wake Baylord Yama while the exiled canine people—plus Baylord Paul and Gado—are getting ready to wake up the other brother trapped underneath the Cage. The plot momentum is outstanding in this Webtoon—it’s honestly refreshing how every time I’m on the verge of burnout the series gives me a reason to keep climbing!
Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
