Tower of God Volume 2: The Workshop Battle: “Workshop Battle – Prologue: Emile” (Episode 38) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 6, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2’s “Workshop Battle – Prologue: Emile”, which helped up set-up Volume 2’s next part using the perspective of a smart AI—similar to an iPhone’s SIRI—named Emile. She was shown conversing with several Regulars like Edin Dan, Ran, Miseng, and Androssi from all the previous arcs, helping them out with their problems. The AI is also sentient on some level based on how she desires to become a human who knows how to love, and how someone she chats with—Traveler—believes she’ll become a human someday.
Apparently, Emile knows everything too. All the characters ask her for advice on which direction to go, the latest fashion trends, and even suggestions on what to do during the tests. During the “The Most Untrustworthy Room” Arc, Miseng actually asked Emile if she should leave the room or not. So, Emile was likely present during most of the other characters’ test struggles too.
While the significance of Emile hadn’t fully established yet, the one takeaway I got was that Emile was trusted with a secret. A ??? user disclosed at the end of the Prologue that the 25th Baam was still alive to Emile, which might be how the other characters—Baam’s old friends—will discover he survived Rachel’s attack.
Emile’s growing self-awareness might also be an entirely other plot point too, as this Prologue was told from her character perspective. The person strapped down in a bathtub roaring that Emile will never become a real person was lowkey terrifying, but also insightful about individuals who are paranoid about AI’s becoming too human. This was an interesting way to guide the reader into Tower of God Volume 2’s second part.
I feel like all the characters introduced so far—at least a majority of them—will be making appearances at the Workshop Battle, which will make Tower of God’s main story a whole lot interesting with them all fighting it out. I really want Khun and the others to know Baam is alive. I also want Rachel to get what’s coming to her; she needs to answer for what she did to Baam.
Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! I really appreciate you all for making it this far with me. The end is nowhere near, but let’s keep it climbing up the Tower! We can’t leave Viole and the others waiting for us.
