Tower of God Volume 2: The Workshop Battle: “Connection” (Episodes 39 through 41) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 6, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2: The Workshop Battle’s second story arc: “Connection”. The arc followed up with Dan using Emile—the smart AI—during the 29th Floor Test, and Khun taking the phone from him for using an “unreliable method”. While messing around with Emile, Khun learned that Baam is alive and wonders how the AI would know such a thing—assuming it was true. Remember, Khun doesn’t have actual proof that Baam is alive yet. Also, Khun is closing in on the “Devil of the Right Arm”.
Khun’s team and Team Sweet and Sour—Viole’s team—are both officially heading to the 30th Floor for The Workshop Battle. I’m looking forward to the eventual meet-up—Baam and Khun’s reunion—on that floor. The character story forming about Horyang and the “Devil of the Right Arm” Cassano is looking to be an interesting one. For some unknown reason, they both have that nickname.
Team Sweet and Sour are on the 28th Floor—right behind Khun’s team—and officially passed the test. I absolutely love Ja Wangnan’s humor at this point, and his devotion to reaching the 30th Floor for the sake of Viole and his old friends is truly admirable. I do wish Wangnan would disclose that goal to the other Sweet and Sour members, but the truth will get out sooner or later. Tower of God is frustrating, complex, and exhilarating all at the same time.
Tower of God’s plot structure is indeed on par with One Piece—based on what I know about that anime / manga series anyway—with how the Webtoon maneuvers its characters, the floor tests, and their roles in the overarching narrative. I find myself invested in so many characters—too many, honestly—and their goals to climb the Tower.
The artwork is improving more and more as the story progresses. Compared to Volume 1’s designs, Volume 2 is cleaner, more in-depth, and drawn with more emotional strokes like whenever Viole exposes his inner “Baam” or more hilarious whenever Wangnan does something outrageous. I’m grateful that SIU is the type of Webtoon writer and artist who kept going and improving along the way.
Thanks for reading my Webtoon review on Tower of God’s next phase, everyone. Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower! To the 30th Floor!
