Tower of God Volume 2: The Workshop Battle: “The Truth” (Episodes 77 through 80) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 7, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2: The Workshop Battle’s ninth story arc: “The Truth”. As you may have guessed, the truth was coming out in this arc regarding Viole’s identity as Baam. Rak, Androssi, and Yihwa raced to meet Viole at his headquarters, where that exact truth bomb was dropped.
The reunion between Rak and Baam was a beautiful payoff. The hug they shared was everything. Rak begging Baam to come back to him and Khun—back to the original goal of climbing the Tower together—was heartbreaking. Androssi reminding Viole that they had a date to keep was cute. Once FUG discovered that Viole contacted his old teammates though, Reflejo and Beta made plans to kill those teammates because Viole broke the rules.
Hatsu also reunited with Leo-Ro, who needed the swordsman’s help with stopping a terrible weapon from being created. The foreshadow was either for Viole or Emile or somehow both. The Traveler—the character who believes Emile is a human and in need of saving—was also seen in his jail cell, surrounded by others in adjacent cells with the same motives. I’m pretty sure Tower of God is building up to something that will connect these plot threads together.
The fallout regarding Anak and Ran’s double knockout from the previous arc was addressed too, with the Gamblers—like Leesoo and Khun—getting a second chance with the Tournament of Growth. I’m excited to see how this turns out because Khun has to bet his luck on Wangnan, and that’s going to be a challenge for them both given how different they are from each other. Wangnan is my favorite character at this point in the series. He grew on me over time. Hopefully, Khun will feel the same way someday.
I appreciated SIU for improving the artwork over the course of the series. Androssi was drawn so beautifully in this arc, and her fashion sense improved dramatically during Volume 2. Keep up the good work, SIU! Your ability to tell the story through the artwork is a true blessing.
What a good story arc with emotional payoffs and plot momentum for the next arc: “Tournament”. I’m looking forward to seeing how everyone survives this next test. Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
