Tower of God Volume 2: The Workshop Battle: “Archimedes” (Episodes 66 through 68) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 7, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2: The Workshop Battle’s seventh story arc: “Archimedes”. This arc served as a rest day for everyone who passed the “One Shot, One Opportunity” game test in the previous arc, giving the story time to develop the Emile plot and its growing connection to The Workshop Battle. Also, Rak returned to the story and reunited with Khun to help him save Baam.
Khun’s character development was also explored further in this arc, reminding the readers—through Rak and Khun’s conversation—that he still harbored issues from his past that were affecting his present. I liked the story about Khun finding a jewel as a kid and kept it hidden from everyone else, even if he couldn’t wear and appreciate the item. This story spoke volumes about Khun’s personality and mindset.
Hwa Ryun also told Rak everything about Baam being alive as Viole and the FUG organization. Rak wants to save Baam and reunite the original team no matter what, not wanting to get sucked into Khun’s overthinking plans like before and to just act. The comedic moments were also nostalgic, with Rak calling everyone turtles while in his Chibi form. Hearing all that talk from Rak, Khun felt determined to save Baam even if it meant he had to play dirtier than FUG themselves.
I have missed the original team so much. I hope Khun and Rak are successful in saving Baam and stopping Rachel someday. Having the other characters from Volume 1 more involved in these story arcs made the reading experience so much better. Stories with great payoffs are what makes them all worthwhile.
Team Leesoo’s characters were also given the spotlight, particularly Hatsu and Androssi. Hatsu’s sword was broken during the fight against Cassano, so Leesoo tries to convince him to buy a new sword. Androssi is given information that she doesn’t know what to do with—like Baam being Viole and Emile being human—and ended up deciding that she didn’t have time for other people’s love stories.
Horyang and Cassano’s story was expanded with Ms. Sophia’s return and the introduction of a little brother named Beta. Ms. Sophia is shown to still be a researcher for The Workshop Battle and working on making Emile—the smart AI that might be human being—into a weapon. I do wonder how Emile will factor into everything going on, and what makes her so significant. Another fan-favorite character cameoed toward the end posing as a bodyguard. We hadn’t seen [SPOILER] since the Extra Floor Side-Stories.
I’m interested to see how all these storylines will clash with each other once the Workshop Battle resumes, and how things will be shaken up again. Baam, Khun, and Rak need to see each other again. They deserve better than what’s been handed to them so far. Tower of God really needs to be renamed Tower of Betrayal.
Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! Let’s keep it climbing up the Tower!
