Tower of God Volume 2: Extra Floor Side-Stories (Episodes 36 and 37) Webtoon Review
Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.
On September 5, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God Volume 2’s side-stories. The additional episodes are interludes—36 was dedicated to Baam’s past and 37 was centered around Leo-Ro and Quant. Getting the full context on Baam’s transformation into Viole was well-received, and learning what happened to Leo-Ro and Quant—while unexpected—was also a hilarious reprieve.
Episode 36 explored Ha Jinsung and his first days training Baam—turned Viole—on how to fight as a FUG member. Initially, Jinsung was not interested in training Viole due to believing he was unfit to kill Zahard. Jinsung also felt remorse on using the Piercing Technique on Viole—the first time he felt bad for hurting someone in a long time.
That piece of information made me see Jinsung in a different light—in addition to finding out he lose someone close to him—and how he likely grew to care about Viole over the years they trained together. Honestly, what FUG did to Baam was unforgivable, but Baam also declared he would get strong enough to never lose anyone else ever again. Baam didn’t want to say goodbye anymore.
Wow! I keep getting shook! By the end of this flashback episode, Jinsung was convinced that Baam could learn to become a God.
Episode 37 had Leo-Ro and Quant enter a mysterious game arcade. This was mostly comedic, as Quant challenged Khun Hachuling—the game arcade’s owner and someone who was with Lady Yuri back on the second floor during the events of Volume 1—to every game in the arcade. Quant losing—in humiliation—was something hilarious. LOL!
Remembering how competitive his character was during the “Hide-and-Seek” test, I found Quant losing all his savings such sweet karma. Quant really wasted all his money trying to win once in any game ranging from virtual soccer to a comedic Death Star sky battle. This episode seemed design to give the reader a healthy dose of laughter after everything we endured in The Prince of Zahard’s arcs.
I also enjoyed the Leo-Ro and Quant’s relationship more than I should’ve. How Quant yelled for Leo-Ro to avenge him—and Leo-Ro telling Quant to shut up and stop following him around—was really cute. Quant acted like he didn’t want to follow him, but that guy seriously had nowhere else to go. Like it or not, they were stuck with each other.
These Tower of God “Extra Floor” side-chapters were excellent for giving us much-needed exposition on Baam-Viole and Jinsung’s history in addition to giving us an update on Quant and Leo-Ro’s activities since they quit being Rankers on the second floor. Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! I’m obsessed with climbing up the Tower—like all the other characters—at this point.
