Legacies 1x16 "There's Always A Loophole" Episode Review
Major Spoilers are included in this episode review. Please read with caution.
The season finale came full-circle for the majority of the storylines. Josie and Lizzie’s issues in relation to The Merge, MG’s character journey, and Hope’s overall purpose since she was introduced as an idea back in The Originals’s backdoor pilot. The title of the episode holds strong meaning in the TVDU because nature always finds a balance… nothing can truly be immortal. Malivore wasn’t immortal, the golem created by the Triad—one vampire, one witch, and one werewolf. Hope learns the purpose in her existence, how she is the only one able to defeat this foe. It’s why nature allowed her to exist… to be the thing that can kill Malivore.
Legacies pulled the rug from underneath us by having Hope pull a Buffy-like sacrifice (“The Gift”) for the man she loves, and the friends she made at school. The friendship between Lizzie, Josie, and Hope was finally free of the past, but now the Twins have to move on with their lives without their memories… as a result of Hope’s sacrifice, no one remembers her.
Rafael is stuck in wolf form thinking Hope would return, but without her there, he is forever trapped as a wolf. His character developed the least, but not even he deserved this treatment for having feelings. MG grew up, disowned his mother, and echoed the lessons he learned from Kaleb to remind his friend to be better than ignorant humans. I’m so proud of the young vampire, and can’t wait to see how he continues onward.
Overall, the school took a stand, Alaric may get ousted for lying to the students regarding the anti-magic system he installed in fear of them. In a way, the show wrapped up all the storylines that were introduced, except the Kai Parker ascendant in the Twins’ possession, and this could be a good character exit for Hope Mikaelson… but she’s not really gone. Josie will remember because she drank her blood… right?
Season two is going to be amazing. I have confidence.
